Job Description

If so, Thresholds is seeking a Peer Engagement Specialist for our Mobile Crisis Response team. As a Peer Engagement Specialist, you will play a critical role in providing immediate support and assistance to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis. We are seeking candidates who possess strong communication skills, have a personal understanding of mental health challenges, and have a desire to use their personal journey to support and empower others.   1. Provide immediate support and assistance to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis.
  2. Utilize personal lived experience with mental health challenges to support and empower others.
  3. Serve as a role model and advocate for individuals in crisis.
  4. Engage and build rapport with clients to establish a trusting relationship.
  5. Assist clients in identifying and utilizing coping strategies.
  6. Collaborate with other members of the Mobile Crisis Response team to ensure a comprehensive approach to care.
  7. Communicate effectively with clients, family members, and other professionals involved in the client's care.
  8. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all client interactions and interventions.
  9. Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
  10. Adhere to ethical and professional standards in all interactions with clients and colleagues.
  11. Use de-escalation techniques to manage crisis situations in a safe and effective manner.
  12. Provide resources and referrals for ongoing support and treatment.
  13. Advocate for and promote mental health awareness and destigmatization.
  14. Collaborate with community organizations and agencies to ensure a continuum of care for clients.
  15. Continuously assess and evaluate client needs and make appropriate recommendations for treatment and support.

Job Qualifications
  • Education And Training: A Minimum Of A Bachelor's Degree In Psychology, Social Work, Or A Related Field Is Required. Additional Certifications Or Training In Crisis Intervention, Peer Support, And Mental Health First Aid Are Preferred.

  • Lived Experience: Candidates Must Have Personal Experience With Mental Illness And/Or Substance Abuse And Be Able To Use Their Own Experiences To Support And Engage With Clients.

  • Strong Communication Skills: The Ability To Communicate Effectively And Compassionately With A Diverse Range Of Individuals, Including Clients, Families, And Colleagues, Is Essential For Building Relationships And De-Escalating Crisis Situations.

  • Crisis Intervention Skills: Candidates Should Have A Thorough Understanding Of Crisis Intervention Techniques And Be Able To Effectively Assess And Manage Crisis Situations In A Calm And Professional Manner.

  • Teamwork And Collaboration: The Role Of A Peer Engagement Specialist Requires Collaboration With Other Mental Health Professionals, Community Organizations, And Other Stakeholders. The Ideal Candidate Should Have Experience Working In A Team-Based Environment And Be Able To Effectively Contribute To A Multidisciplinary Team.
