- Provide immediate support and assistance to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis.
- Utilize personal lived experience with mental health challenges to support and empower others.
- Serve as a role model and advocate for individuals in crisis.
- Engage and build rapport with clients to establish a trusting relationship.
- Assist clients in identifying and utilizing coping strategies.
- Collaborate with other members of the Mobile Crisis Response team to ensure a comprehensive approach to care.
- Communicate effectively with clients, family members, and other professionals involved in the client's care.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all client interactions and interventions.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Adhere to ethical and professional standards in all interactions with clients and colleagues.
- Use de-escalation techniques to manage crisis situations in a safe and effective manner.
- Provide resources and referrals for ongoing support and treatment.
- Advocate for and promote mental health awareness and destigmatization.
- Collaborate with community organizations and agencies to ensure a continuum of care for clients.
- Continuously assess and evaluate client needs and make appropriate recommendations for treatment and support.
Education And Training: A Minimum Of A Bachelor's Degree In Psychology, Social Work, Or A Related Field Is Required. Additional Certifications Or Training In Crisis Intervention, Peer Support, And Mental Health First Aid Are Preferred.
Lived Experience: Candidates Must Have Personal Experience With Mental Illness And/Or Substance Abuse And Be Able To Use Their Own Experiences To Support And Engage With Clients.
Strong Communication Skills: The Ability To Communicate Effectively And Compassionately With A Diverse Range Of Individuals, Including Clients, Families, And Colleagues, Is Essential For Building Relationships And De-Escalating Crisis Situations.
Crisis Intervention Skills: Candidates Should Have A Thorough Understanding Of Crisis Intervention Techniques And Be Able To Effectively Assess And Manage Crisis Situations In A Calm And Professional Manner.
Teamwork And Collaboration: The Role Of A Peer Engagement Specialist Requires Collaboration With Other Mental Health Professionals, Community Organizations, And Other Stakeholders. The Ideal Candidate Should Have Experience Working In A Team-Based Environment And Be Able To Effectively Contribute To A Multidisciplinary Team.
