
ASL Community Support Specialist - Deaf Program

- Provide exceptional support and resources to individuals in the deaf community
- Work closely with members of the deaf community to understand their needs and provide appropriate support
- Navigate various systems and services on behalf of clients
- Advocate for and empower individuals with disabilities
- Build and maintain relationships with members of the deaf community and other relevant organizations
- Stay up-to-date on resources and services available to the deaf community
- Conduct assessments and create individualized support plans for clients
- Assist clients with daily living activities, such as transportation, grocery shopping, and appointments
- Organize and facilitate workshops and events to promote awareness and understanding of the deaf culture
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of client interactions and progress
- Collaborate with other members of the Thresholds team to ensure comprehensive care for clients
- Continuously seek opportunities for professional development and growth in the field of deaf services
- Uphold and promote the values and mission of Thresholds in all interactions with clients and the community.
Fluency In American Sign Language (Asl) And Knowledge Of Deaf Culture: As A Asl Community Support Specialist For The Deaf Program At Thresholds, It Is Essential To Have A Strong Command Over Asl And Understanding Of Deaf Culture To Effectively Communicate And Engage With Clients.
Bachelor's Degree In Social Work Or Related Field: A Bachelor's Degree In Social Work Or A Related Field Is Typically Required For This Position. This Provides A Foundation In Understanding Mental Health And Social Service Systems, Which Is Crucial For Supporting Clients In The Deaf Community.
Experience Working With Individuals With Mental Illness And/Or Disabilities: Prior Experience Working With Individuals With Mental Illness And/Or Disabilities Is Highly Desirable For This Role. It Demonstrates An Understanding Of The Unique Challenges And Needs Of This Population.
Knowledge Of Case Management And Support Services: A Strong Understanding Of Case Management Principles And Experience Providing Support Services Is Important For This Role. This Includes Coordinating And Advocating For Clients' Needs And Connecting Them With Resources And Services.
Ability To Work Independently And As Part Of A Team: As An Asl Community Support Specialist, You May Work Independently With Clients, But Also Collaborate With A Team Of Professionals. The Ability To Work Effectively In Both Settings Is Crucial For Success In This Role.
