Job Description

Welcome to The University of New Mexico’s Level 1 Trauma Center, where we are committed to providing exceptional orthopedic care to our patients. We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as an Orthopedic Medical Scribe. As a Level 1 Trauma Center, our fast-paced environment requires a candidate who is able to thrive under pressure and maintain accuracy in their work.   1. Accurately record and transcribe patient medical histories, physical exams, and treatment plans in real-time.
  2. Maintain detailed and organized electronic medical records for all orthopedic patients.
  3. Work closely with orthopedic surgeons and other medical staff to ensure accurate and thorough documentation.
  4. Keep up-to-date on medical terminology and procedures related to orthopedic care.
  5. Assist with patient registration, scheduling, and other administrative tasks as needed.
  6. Adhere to strict confidentiality and HIPAA guidelines when handling sensitive patient information.
  7. Monitor and prioritize patient flow to ensure timely and efficient documentation.
  8. Communicate effectively with medical staff to clarify any discrepancies or missing information in medical records.
  9. Participate in training and ongoing education to maintain knowledge and skills related to orthopedic medicine.
  10. Demonstrate strong attention to detail and accuracy in all documentation.
  11. Collaborate with other medical scribes and team members to ensure smooth workflow and high-quality patient care.
  12. Keep abreast of any changes or updates in protocols, procedures, or regulations related to orthopedic care.
  13. Continuously seek ways to improve efficiency and accuracy in medical documentation processes.
  14. Maintain a professional and positive attitude in a fast-paced and high-stress environment.
  15. Adhere to the policies and procedures of The University of New Mexico’s Level 1 Trauma Center.

Job Qualifications
  • Knowledge And Understanding Of Orthopedic Terminology: The Ideal Candidate For This Job Should Possess A Strong Understanding Of Medical Terminology Related To Orthopedics, Including Anatomy, Procedures, And Equipment.

  • Experience In Medical Scribing: Previous Experience As A Medical Scribe, Specifically In An Orthopedic Setting, Is Highly Preferred. The Candidate Should Have A Demonstrated Ability To Accurately And Efficiently Document Patient Encounters And Assist With Charting.

  • Ability To Multitask And Work In A Fast-Paced Environment: The University Of New Mexico's Level 1 Trauma Center Is A Fast-Paced Environment, And The Orthopedic Medical Scribe Must Be Able To Handle Multiple Tasks And Adapt Quickly To Changing Situations.

  • Strong Attention To Detail: The Candidate For This Role Should Have Excellent Attention To Detail, As They Will Be Responsible For Accurately Documenting Patient Encounters, Procedures, And Medical History.

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills: As A Medical Scribe, The Candidate Will Be Working Closely With Physicians, Nurses, And Other Medical Staff. Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills Are Essential For Effective Teamwork And Ensuring Accurate Documentation.
