Job Description

Are you a passionate traveler and a proud Jayhawk? Do you have a strong desire to help others explore the world through studying abroad? The University of Kansas is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Study Abroad Peer Advisor to join our team. As a Peer Advisor, you will have the opportunity to assist and guide other students in their study abroad journey, while also gaining valuable skills and experiences for your own future. We are looking for a motivated individual with excellent communication skills, a positive attitude, and a deep understanding of the benefits of studying abroad. Join us in making a difference and shaping the global perspectives of our KU community.

  1. Assist and guide students in their study abroad journey by providing relevant and accurate information about programs, application processes, and resources available.
  2. Conduct informational sessions and workshops to educate students about the benefits and opportunities of studying abroad.
  3. Respond to inquiries from students, faculty, and staff regarding study abroad programs and resources.
  4. Collaborate with various departments and organizations on campus to promote study abroad programs and events.
  5. Utilize strong communication skills to effectively communicate with students from diverse backgrounds and with varying levels of understanding about study abroad.
  6. Serve as a role model for responsible and safe behavior while studying abroad.
  7. Develop and maintain relationships with study abroad alumni to promote the program and share their experiences with current students.
  8. Stay updated on current study abroad trends and best practices in order to provide accurate and relevant information to students.
  9. Assist in the planning and execution of study abroad events, such as pre-departure orientations and re-entry workshops.
  10. Act as a liaison between students and study abroad program providers to ensure a smooth and successful experience for all parties involved.
  11. Collect and analyze data on study abroad participation and outcomes to inform future program development and marketing strategies.
  12. Continuously assess and improve study abroad advising processes and resources to best support students.
  13. Embrace a positive attitude and promote a culture of diversity, inclusivity, and global citizenship within the KU community.
  14. Actively participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge related to study abroad advising.
  15. Represent the University of Kansas and the study abroad program at campus events and conferences.

Job Qualifications
  • Excellent Communication Skills: The Study Abroad Peer Advisor Should Possess Strong Verbal And Written Communication Skills To Effectively Guide And Assist Students With Their Study Abroad Plans. They Should Also Be Able To Communicate And Collaborate Effectively With The Study Abroad Office Staff.

  • Experience Studying Abroad: The Ideal Candidate Should Have Prior Experience Studying Abroad, Preferably At The University Of Kansas Or In A Similar Program. This Will Enable Them To Relate To Students' Concerns And Provide Valuable Insights And Advice.

  • Knowledge Of Study Abroad Programs: The Peer Advisor Should Have A Good Understanding Of The Study Abroad Programs Offered At The University Of Kansas, Including The Application Process, Academic Requirements, And Cultural Aspects.

  • Cultural Competency: As A Peer Advisor, The Candidate Should Be Able To Work With Students From Diverse Backgrounds And Have A Strong Understanding Of Cultural Differences. This Will Help Them Provide Inclusive And Sensitive Guidance To Students.

  • Strong Organizational Skills: The Study Abroad Peer Advisor Should Possess Excellent Organizational Skills To Manage Their Workload Efficiently. They Should Be Able To Handle Multiple Tasks, Meet Deadlines, And Maintain Accurate Records Of Student Interactions And Program Information.
