- Portray patients with specific medical conditions or scenarios to help students develop their clinical and communication skills.
- Provide a realistic and valuable learning experience for students.
- Work closely with faculty and staff to ensure accurate portrayal of patient scenarios.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
- Attend training sessions to learn about new patient scenarios and provide feedback.
- Participate in debriefing sessions with students to provide constructive feedback on their performance.
- Act as a role model for students in terms of empathy, communication, and patient-centered care.
- Collaborate with faculty to develop new patient scenarios that align with learning objectives.
- Communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff to ensure a smooth and successful learning experience.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of medical terminology and procedures related to assigned patient scenarios.
- Assist in the evaluation of students' performance during simulated patient encounters.
- Maintain flexibility and adaptability in order to portray various patient roles as needed.
- Represent the University in a professional and positive manner at all times.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Continuously strive to improve and enhance the standardized patient program at the University.
Excellent Communication Skills: As A Standardized Patient At The University Of Kansas, You Will Be Required To Effectively Communicate With Medical Students And Faculty. This Includes Providing Feedback And Following Specific Instructions For Portraying Various Medical Conditions.
Knowledge Of Medical Terminology: A Strong Understanding Of Medical Terminology Is Essential For Accurately Portraying Medical Conditions And Symptoms. This Will Also Help In Understanding And Following Instructions From Medical Students And Faculty.
Reliability And Punctuality: Standardized Patients Are An Integral Part Of Medical Education, And It Is Crucial For Them To Be Reliable And Punctual. This Includes Being Available For Scheduled Sessions And Arriving On Time.
Ability To Follow Directions: As A Standardized Patient, You Will Be Given Specific Instructions On How To Portray Certain Medical Conditions Or Symptoms. It Is Important To Be Able To Follow These Instructions Accurately And Consistently.
Comfort With Physical Examinations: Some Scenarios May Require Standardized Patients To Undergo Physical Examinations By Medical Students. Therefore, Having A Comfort Level With These Types Of Interactions Is Necessary For This Role.
