The University of Kansas is seeking a dedicated Library Assistant for our New Request Fulfillment department. In this role, you will play a vital role in helping our patrons access the materials they need for their academic pursuits. We are looking for someone with excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and a customer-service oriented mindset.   1. Assist patrons with locating and obtaining resources, including books, articles, and other materials.
  2. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of requests and materials received.
  3. Process and fulfill requests in a timely manner, ensuring excellent customer service.
  4. Collaborate with other library staff to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
  5. Utilize library systems and technology to assist patrons in their research and access to resources.
  6. Provide guidance and support to patrons in navigating library resources and services.
  7. Assist with the maintenance and organization of the library collection.
  8. Stay current on library policies, procedures, and resources to provide accurate and helpful information to patrons.
  9. Act as a liaison between patrons and other departments within the library.
  10. Uphold the mission and values of the University of Kansas and the library system in all interactions with patrons and colleagues.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Library Science Or A Related Field: A Degree In Library Science Or A Related Field Demonstrates A Strong Foundation In Library Principles And Practices, Making The Candidate Well-Equipped To Assist With Requests And Fulfill Them Efficiently.

  • Experience Working In A Library Setting: Previous Experience Working In A Library, Whether As A Volunteer Or In A Paid Position, Is Highly Desirable For A Library Assistant Role. It Shows That The Candidate Is Familiar With Library Procedures And Has A Basic Understanding Of How Libraries Operate.

  • Excellent Organizational And Time-Management Skills: As A Library Assistant, One Will Be Responsible For Managing And Fulfilling Multiple Requests At A Time. Strong Organizational And Time-Management Skills Are Necessary To Ensure That Requests Are Completed Accurately And In A Timely Manner.

  • Attention To Detail: A Library Assistant Must Have A Keen Eye For Detail To Ensure That All Requests Are Fulfilled Accurately And Nothing Is Missed. This Includes Paying Attention To Specific Instructions And Following Established Protocols For Handling And Tracking Requests.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: The Ability To Communicate Effectively And Work Well With Others Is Essential For A Library Assistant. This Includes Communicating With Patrons To Clarify Their Requests, Collaborating With Other Library Staff, And Providing Excellent Customer Service.
