Welcome to The University of Kansas! We are currently seeking a dynamic and passionate individual to join our team as a Lecturer for our Journalism and Mass Communications Programs. As a lecturer, you will have the opportunity to shape the minds of the future generation of media professionals and contribute to the academic excellence of our department. We are looking for someone who is dedicated to teaching and has a strong understanding of the ever-evolving field of journalism and mass communications. If you are enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and possess the required qualifications, we would love to hear from you.

  1. Develop and deliver engaging and informative lectures to undergraduate students in the Journalism and Mass Communications Programs.
  2. Create and update course materials, including syllabi, assignments, and assessments, to ensure they align with departmental standards and industry developments.
  3. Provide individualized support and mentorship to students, helping them develop critical thinking, writing, and communication skills.
  4. Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in journalism and mass communications, incorporating them into the curriculum.
  5. Collaborate with other faculty members to develop interdisciplinary courses and projects.
  6. Participate in departmental meetings and committees to contribute to the continuous improvement of the program.
  7. Actively engage with students outside of the classroom through office hours, advising, and extracurricular activities.
  8. Evaluate student progress and provide timely and constructive feedback on assignments and assessments.
  9. Attend and participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and stay current in the field.
  10. Contribute to the recruitment and retention of students by promoting the program and its opportunities to potential and current students.
  11. Maintain a professional and respectful classroom environment that fosters diversity, inclusivity, and academic excellence.
  12. Adhere to the university's policies and procedures, including academic integrity and ethical conduct.
  13. Represent the university and the department at conferences, events, and other public engagements.
  14. Continuously evaluate and improve teaching methods and techniques to enhance student learning and success.
  15. Fulfill any other duties as assigned by the department chair or university administration.

Job Qualifications
  • A Minimum Of A Master's Degree In Journalism, Mass Communications, Or A Related Field Is Required.

  • At Least 3 Years Of Professional Experience In The Field Of Journalism Or Mass Communications, Preferably In A Leadership Or Managerial Role.

  • Prior Teaching Experience At The University Level, With A Proven Track Record Of Effective Instruction And Student Engagement.

  • Strong Research And Publication Record In The Field Of Journalism Or Mass Communications, Demonstrating Expertise And Contribution To The Academic Community.

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Mentor And Guide Students From Diverse Backgrounds And Collaborate With Colleagues In A Team Environment.
