Welcome to The University of Kansas Physics Department! We are seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to join our team as a Lecture Undergraduate Teaching Assistant (UGTA). As a UGTA, you will have the opportunity to assist in teaching undergraduate level physics courses and help students develop a deeper understanding of the subject.   1. Assist in teaching undergraduate level physics courses by delivering lectures and leading discussions.
  2. Develop and implement lesson plans and activities to enhance student understanding of physics concepts.
  3. Facilitate and lead lab sessions, providing hands-on learning experiences for students.
  4. Provide guidance and support to students during office hours or designated help sessions.
  5. Grade assignments, quizzes, and exams in a timely and fair manner.
  6. Communicate effectively with students, professors, and other teaching assistants to ensure a cohesive learning experience.
  7. Attend department meetings and training sessions to stay updated on course materials and teaching methods.
  8. Actively participate in course planning and contribute new ideas for improving instruction.
  9. Assist in maintaining and organizing teaching materials, such as lecture slides, handouts, and lab equipment.
  10. Serve as a role model and mentor for students, promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  11. Collaborate with professors and other teaching assistants to ensure consistency in grading and teaching methods.
  12. Stay updated on current research and advancements in the field of physics to provide relevant and accurate information to students.
  13. Adhere to university policies and guidelines, maintaining a professional and ethical work ethic.
  14. Continuously seek feedback and strive for improvement in teaching methods and techniques.
  15. Represent the university and the physics department in a positive manner to students, faculty, and the general public.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Physics Or Related Field: A Ugta For Physics At The University Of Kansas Must Possess A Strong Background In The Subject Matter, Which Is Typically Obtained Through A Bachelor's Degree In Physics Or A Closely Related Field.

  • Excellent Communication Skills: As A Ugta, One Must Be Able To Effectively Communicate Complex Concepts And Ideas To Undergraduate Students. This Requires Strong Verbal And Written Communication Skills.

  • Prior Teaching Or Tutoring Experience: Previous Experience In Teaching Or Tutoring, Particularly In The Field Of Physics, Is Highly Desirable For A Ugta Position. This Demonstrates The Candidate's Ability To Effectively Convey Information And Assist Students In Understanding Difficult Concepts.

  • Strong Academic Performance: The Ideal Candidate For A Ugta Position Should Have A Strong Academic Record, Particularly In Physics And Related Courses. This Not Only Demonstrates Their Understanding Of The Subject Matter, But Also Their Ability To Handle The Demands Of The Job.

  • Organizational And Time-Management Skills: Ugtas Are Often Responsible For Assisting With Course Planning, Grading Assignments, And Holding Office Hours. Therefore, It Is Important For Candidates To Have Strong Organizational And Time-Management Skills To Effectively Balance Their Duties As A Ugta With Their Own Academic Workload.
