  1. Accurately code inpatient medical records using ICD-10-CM and CPT codes.
  2. Review medical records to ensure completeness and accuracy of documentation.
  3. Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation and ensure compliance with coding guidelines.
  4. Stay up-to-date on coding guidelines and regulations to ensure accurate and compliant coding practices.
  5. Review and analyze coding denials and assist with appeals.
  6. Train and mentor junior coders on coding guidelines and practices.
  7. Work with billing and revenue cycle teams to ensure timely and accurate reimbursement.
  8. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to improve coding and documentation processes.
  9. Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
  10. Participate in quality improvement initiatives to ensure accurate and complete coding.
  11. Attend coding and billing education sessions and conferences as required.
  12. Uphold the mission, vision, and values of The Ohio State University.
  13. Act as a resource for coding-related questions and issues.
  14. Maintain productivity and accuracy standards set by the organization.
  15. Adhere to all coding compliance and ethical standards.
  16. Communicate effectively with healthcare providers and other team members.
  17. Maintain accurate records and documentation of coding activities.
  18. Continuously seek opportunities for professional development and growth.
  19. Identify and report any coding or documentation issues to the appropriate parties.
  20. Comply with all organization policies and procedures.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Health Information Management Or Related Field

  • Certified Coding Specialist (Ccs) Or Certified Professional Coder (Cpc) Certification

  • Minimum Of 5 Years Of Experience In Inpatient Coding, Preferably In An Academic Medical Center Setting

  • Strong Knowledge Of Icd-10-Cm, Cpt, And Hcpcs Coding Systems

  • Familiarity With Electronic Health Record Systems, Especially Epic, And Coding Software Such As 3M And/Or Optum.
