- Conduct experimental flight tests on new and existing aircraft, including test flights, evaluations, and data collection.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to develop and refine test plans and procedures.
- Analyze and interpret test data to identify potential issues and make recommendations for improvements.
- Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of aircraft systems and performance capabilities.
- Communicate test results and make recommendations to project managers and senior leadership.
- Maintain proficiency in all relevant regulations, procedures, and standards related to experimental flight testing.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and procedures during all flight operations.
- Identify and troubleshoot any technical issues that arise during flight testing.
- Provide recommendations for modifications or improvements to aircraft design based on test results.
- Mentor and train other pilots and flight test personnel.
- Stay current on industry trends and advancements in aviation technology.
- Represent the company at industry events and conferences.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all flight tests and associated data.
- Work closely with ground crew and support personnel to ensure smooth and efficient flight operations.
- Uphold Textron's commitment to quality and excellence in all aspects of the job.
Extensive Flight Experience: A Qualified Experimental Test Pilot At Textron Must Have A Minimum Of 2,500 Hours Of Flight Time, Including Experience In Conducting Test Flights For New Aircraft Designs.
Strong Technical Knowledge: The Job Requires A Deep Understanding Of Aircraft Systems, Aerodynamics, And Flight Principles. A Degree In Engineering Or A Related Field Is Typically Required.
Excellent Communication Skills: As A Test Pilot, You Will Need To Effectively Communicate With Engineers, Designers, And Other Team Members To Provide Feedback And Make Recommendations For Improvements.
Ability To Handle High-Stress Situations: Test Pilots Often Encounter Unexpected Challenges During Flight Testing, So The Ability To Remain Calm And Make Quick Decisions Under Pressure Is Crucial.
Safety Focus: Safety Is The Top Priority In Experimental Flight Testing, So A Strong Understanding Of Safety Protocols And Procedures Is Essential For This Role. Previous Experience In Military Or Commercial Aviation Safety Is Preferred.
