Job Description

  1. Provide compassionate and competent nursing care to individuals with mental health issues in the Psychiatric Emergency Services department.
  2. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
  3. Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments and document findings accurately and timely.
  4. Administer medications and monitor patients' response to treatment, making necessary adjustments as directed by medical providers.
  5. Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, ensuring their physical and emotional needs are met.
  6. Act as an advocate for patients, ensuring their rights and preferences are respected and upheld.
  7. Respond to psychiatric emergencies and provide crisis intervention as needed.
  8. Educate patients and their families on mental health conditions, treatment options, and resources available for ongoing support.
  9. Continuously assess and evaluate patients' progress and adjust treatment plans accordingly.
  10. Collaborate with community resources and referral agencies to ensure patients receive appropriate follow-up care.
  11. Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards to ensure high-quality patient care.
  12. Participate in ongoing education and training to maintain and enhance clinical knowledge and skills.
  13. Act as a role model for nursing staff, promoting teamwork, professionalism, and excellence in patient care.
  14. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care, including progress notes, treatment plans, and other required forms.
  15. Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance the delivery of mental health services.

Job Qualifications
  • Valid Nursing License: A Staff Nurse In Psychiatric Emergency Services At Sutter Health Must Possess A Valid Nursing License From The State In Which They Will Be Working.

  • Experience In Psychiatric Nursing: A Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience In Psychiatric Nursing Is Preferred For This Role. This Includes Experience In Emergency Psychiatric Care And Crisis Intervention.

  • Knowledge Of Mental Health Disorders: Candidates Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Various Mental Health Disorders And Their Treatment, As Well As Experience Working With Individuals Experiencing Acute Psychiatric Symptoms.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: As A Staff Nurse In Psychiatric Emergency Services, Effective Communication And The Ability To Work Well With A Multidisciplinary Team Are Essential. Candidates Should Also Be Able To Communicate Effectively With Patients And Their Families.

  • Ability To Work In A Fast-Paced, High-Stress Environment: Working In A Psychiatric Emergency Setting Can Be Challenging And Demanding. Candidates Should Be Able To Remain Calm Under Pressure, Prioritize Tasks, And Make Quick Decisions In A Fast-Paced Environment.
