Job Description

If so, Sutter Health is seeking a dedicated Child Life Specialist to join our dynamic team. As a Child Life Specialist, you will play a crucial role in creating a positive and comforting environment for children in healthcare settings. We are looking for someone with a degree in Child Life, Psychology, or a related field, along with experience working with children in medical settings.   1. Provide emotional support and coping strategies to young patients and their families during difficult times.
  2. Create a positive and comforting environment for children in healthcare settings.
  3. Utilize a strong understanding of child development to assess and address the needs of each individual child.
  4. Collaborate with healthcare team members to develop and implement child-centered care plans.
  5. Utilize child life techniques, such as play therapy, to help children cope with medical procedures and hospitalization.
  6. Educate parents and caregivers on how to support their child's emotional and developmental needs during their hospital stay.
  7. Develop and facilitate age-appropriate activities and programs for children in the hospital.
  8. Advocate for the needs and rights of children within the healthcare system.
  9. Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of interactions and interventions with patients and families.
  10. Stay updated on current research and best practices in child life and integrate them into daily practice.
  11. Work collaboratively with community organizations and volunteers to enhance the child life program.
  12. Serve as a resource and support for other healthcare professionals in regards to child life and pediatric care.
  13. Continuously assess and evaluate the effectiveness of child life interventions and make necessary adjustments.
  14. Maintain a professional and compassionate demeanor while interacting with patients, families, and colleagues.
  15. Adhere to all ethical and professional standards set forth by the Association of Child Life Professionals.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Or Master's Degree In Child Life, Child Development, Psychology, Or A Related Field.

  • Certification As A Child Life Specialist Through The Child Life Council.

  • Minimum Of 2-3 Years Experience Working With Children In A Healthcare Setting.

  • Strong Knowledge And Understanding Of Child Development And Family-Centered Care Principles.

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Work Collaboratively With A Multidisciplinary Team.
