  1. Serve as a primary point of contact and resource for students, families, and educators regarding special education services and accommodations.
  2. Advocate for students with special needs by ensuring their individualized education plans (IEPs) are being implemented effectively and their educational needs are being met.
  3. Collaborate with school districts, educators, and other professionals to develop and implement strategies for supporting students with special needs in the classroom.
  4. Stay up-to-date on federal and state laws and regulations related to special education and ensure compliance with these regulations.
  5. Conduct trainings and workshops for educators and families on topics related to special education and inclusivity.
  6. Provide guidance and support to school districts and educators in the development and implementation of IEPs.
  7. Conduct evaluations and assessments to determine eligibility for special education services.
  8. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of special education programs and provide recommendations for improvement.
  9. Communicate and work closely with parents, guardians, and other stakeholders to ensure their involvement in the special education process.
  10. Collaborate with community organizations and agencies to provide additional resources and support for students with special needs.
  11. Maintain accurate and confidential records of students receiving special education services.
  12. Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to special education.
  13. Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices in special education.
  14. Embrace and promote diversity, equity, and inclusivity in all aspects of the job.
  15. Work collaboratively with colleagues and other agencies to promote a cohesive and effective support system for students with special needs.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Special Education Or Related Field: The Ideal Candidate For A Special Education Advisor Position At State Of Pennsylvania Should Possess A Bachelor's Degree In Special Education Or A Related Field. This Degree Will Provide The Necessary Knowledge And Skills To Effectively Support Students With Special Needs.

  • State Certification In Special Education: A Valid State Certification In Special Education Is A Must-Have Qualification For This Role. This Certification Ensures That The Candidate Has Met The State's Requirements For Teaching Students With Special Needs And Is Knowledgeable About Special Education Laws And Regulations.

  • Experience Working With Students With Special Needs: Candidates With Prior Experience Working With Students With Special Needs Will Be Preferred For This Role. This Experience Can Be In Any Setting, Such As A School, Community Center, Or Non-Profit Organization, And Will Demonstrate The Candidate's Ability To Support And Advocate For Students With Special Needs.

  • Knowledge Of Iep Development And Implementation: Individualized Education Plans (Ieps) Are A Crucial Aspect Of Special Education, And A Special Education Advisor Must Have A Thorough Understanding Of Their Development And Implementation. Knowledge Of Ieps Will Allow The Candidate To Effectively Collaborate With Teachers, Parents, And Other Professionals To Create And Implement Appropriate Education Plans For Students With Special Needs.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: As A Special Education Advisor, The Candidate Will Be Required To Communicate And Collaborate With A Variety Of Stakeholders, Including Students, Parents, Teachers, And Other Professionals. Therefore, Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills Are Essential For This Role To Effectively Advocate For Students With Special Needs And Build Positive Relationships With All Parties Involved.
