- Provide orientation and mobility services to individuals with visual impairments in a professional and compassionate manner.
- Assess the needs of individuals with visual impairments and develop individualized plans to improve their independent travel skills.
- Conduct orientation and mobility training sessions and activities to teach individuals how to navigate their environment safely and independently.
- Collaborate with other professionals, such as teachers and therapists, to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated approach to meeting the needs of individuals with visual impairments.
- Stay up-to-date on the latest techniques and technologies related to orientation and mobility, and incorporate them into practice as appropriate.
- Advocate for the needs and rights of individuals with visual impairments, and work towards creating an inclusive and accessible environment.
- Maintain accurate and thorough records of all orientation and mobility services provided.
- Communicate effectively with individuals with visual impairments, their families, and other team members.
- Participate in team meetings and provide input on the development of individualized education plans for students with visual impairments.
- Collaborate with community organizations and resources to enhance services and support for individuals with visual impairments.
- Attend professional development opportunities to continuously improve skills and knowledge related to orientation and mobility.
- Adhere to all ethical standards and guidelines in the provision of orientation and mobility services.
- Demonstrate a commitment to diversity and cultural competency in working with individuals from different backgrounds and abilities.
- Represent the Department of Education in a professional and positive manner at all times.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
Bachelor's Or Master's Degree In Orientation And Mobility Or Related Field.
Certification From The Academy For Certification Of Vision Rehabilitation And Education Professionals (Acvrep).
Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience Working With Individuals Who Are Blind Or Visually Impaired.
Knowledge Of State And Federal Laws Related To The Education And Rights Of Individuals With Disabilities.
Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Collaborate With A Multidisciplinary Team And Provide Instruction To Individuals With Varying Levels Of Vision Loss.
