Welcome to the State of New York Department of Transportation! We are currently seeking motivated and hardworking individuals to join our team as Highway Maintenance Workers 1/ Trainee 1/ Trainee 2. - Perform routine maintenance tasks on highways, including but not limited to: repairing potholes, patching pavement, and repairing guardrails.
- Operate various equipment such as trucks, snowplows, and mowers to complete maintenance tasks.
- Ensure all work is completed following safety protocols and guidelines.
- Report any safety hazards or concerns to the supervisor.
- Participate in on-the-job training to learn proper maintenance techniques and equipment operation.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Follow directions and instructions from supervisors and more experienced coworkers.
- Communicate effectively with team members to ensure tasks are completed efficiently.
- Work in a team environment to complete larger maintenance projects.
- Demonstrate a strong work ethic and commitment to maintaining safe and efficient highways for the public.
- Use physical stamina to complete tasks that may require heavy lifting or extended periods of standing or walking.
- Adhere to department policies and procedures at all times.
- Attend and participate in department meetings and training sessions as required.
- Continuously strive to improve skills and knowledge in highway maintenance.
- Represent the State of New York Department of Transportation in a professional and positive manner at all times.
High School Diploma Or Equivalent: A Minimum Education Requirement For This Position Is A High School Diploma Or Equivalent. This Demonstrates Basic Knowledge And Understanding Of Essential Skills Such As Reading, Writing, And Math.
Valid Driver's License: A Valid Driver's License Is Required For This Position As It Involves Operating And Maintaining Various Types Of Equipment And Vehicles On Highways.
Physical Fitness: This Job Requires A Certain Level Of Physical Fitness As It Involves Working Outdoors In Various Weather Conditions, Lifting Heavy Equipment, And Performing Physically Demanding Tasks Such As Manual Labor.
Basic Mechanical Skills: A Basic Understanding Of Mechanics Is Necessary For This Position As It Involves Maintaining And Repairing Various Types Of Equipment And Vehicles Used For Highway Maintenance.
Willingness To Learn: As A Trainee, A Willingness To Learn And Acquire New Skills Is Essential. The Job May Involve On-The-Job Training And The Ability To Follow Instructions And Learn New Techniques Is Important For Success In This Role.
