We are currently seeking motivated individuals to join us as Highway Maintenance Worker 1/Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 1/Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 2. As a member of our team, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the safety and functionality of our state's highways. We are looking for individuals who are dependable, hardworking, and eager to learn. No prior experience is necessary, as we provide on-the-job training for all levels. However, a strong work ethic and a willingness to work in various weather conditions is a must. Join us in our mission to keep New York's highways in top condition!
- Perform regular maintenance and repairs on state highways, including but not limited to pavement repair, pothole patching, sign installation, and snow removal.
- Operate and maintain various equipment and vehicles used for highway maintenance, such as plows, dump trucks, and road sweepers.
- Follow safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for self and others.
- Respond to emergency situations and assist with traffic control as needed.
- Keep accurate records of work completed, materials used, and equipment maintenance.
- Participate in on-the-job training to learn proper techniques and procedures for highway maintenance.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to coordinate tasks and ensure timely completion of projects.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and ensure all equipment is properly stored and maintained.
- Continuously monitor and report any potential hazards or issues on the highways, such as damaged signs or road conditions.
- Represent the State of New York in a professional and courteous manner when interacting with the public.
High School Diploma Or Ged: The First Qualification For This Position Would Be A High School Diploma Or Equivalent. This Shows That The Candidate Has A Basic Level Of Education And Is Able To Understand And Follow Instructions.
Valid Driver's License: A Valid Driver's License Is Essential For This Job As It Involves Operating Various Types Of Vehicles And Equipment To Perform Highway Maintenance Tasks. Candidates Must Have A Clean Driving Record And Be Able To Obtain A Commercial Driver's License (Cdl) Within A Specified Time Period.
Physical Fitness: This Position Requires A High Level Of Physical Fitness As It Involves Heavy Lifting, Bending, And Standing For Long Periods Of Time. Candidates Must Be Able To Work In All Weather Conditions And Be Physically Able To Perform The Job Duties.
Basic Mechanical Skills: Experience With Basic Mechanical Tasks Such As Changing Tires, Checking Fluid Levels, And Performing Minor Repairs Is Preferred For This Position. Candidates Should Also Have A Basic Understanding Of How To Operate And Maintain Equipment.
Availability For Shift Work And Emergency Response: Highway Maintenance Workers Must Be Available To Work Various Shifts, Including Nights, Weekends, And Holidays. They Must Also Be Able To Respond To Emergencies And Work Overtime As Needed. Flexibility In Scheduling Is A Must For This Job.
