Job Description

Welcome to the State of New York's Department of Environmental Conservation! We are currently seeking a highly qualified individual to join our team as the Director of Forest Ranger Services.As the Director, you will be responsible for overseeing the management and protection of New York State's vast and diverse forest lands. You will work closely with a team of dedicated Forest Rangers and other agency staff to ensure the preservation and sustainable use of our natural resources.To be successful in this role, we are seeking a candidate with a strong background in natural resource management, as well as excellent leadership and communication skills.   1. Develop and implement strategic plans and policies for the management and protection of New York State's forest lands.
  2. Supervise and provide direction to a team of Forest Rangers, ensuring that they are properly trained and equipped to carry out their duties.
  3. Collaborate with other agency staff and stakeholders to develop and implement conservation and sustainability initiatives.
  4. Conduct regular evaluations and assessments of forest lands to identify potential threats and areas in need of management.
  5. Monitor and enforce compliance with state and federal laws, regulations, and policies related to natural resource management.
  6. Provide guidance and support to Forest Rangers in handling emergency situations, such as wildfires or natural disasters.
  7. Foster positive relationships and partnerships with local communities, landowners, and other stakeholders to promote sustainable use and protection of forest lands.
  8. Prepare and manage budgets, grants, and other resources to support the operations of the Forest Ranger Services.
  9. Stay up-to-date on advancements and best practices in natural resource management and incorporate them into departmental strategies and operations.
  10. Represent the department in meetings, conferences, and other events related to natural resource management and conservation.

Job Qualifications
  • Knowledge Of State And Federal Laws And Regulations Related To Forest Management And Conservation

  • Bachelor's Degree In Forestry, Natural Resources Management, Or A Related Field

  • Minimum Of 5 Years Of Experience In Managing And Supervising Forest Ranger Operations

  • Demonstrated Leadership And Decision-Making Skills

  • Ability To Communicate Effectively With Diverse Stakeholders, Including Government Officials, Landowners, And The General Public.
