  1. Provide direct support to individuals with mental health challenges by developing and maintaining a supportive relationship with them.
  2. Utilize a person-centered approach to help individuals identify their strengths, set goals, and develop strategies for achieving them.
  3. Serve as a role model for individuals in recovery by sharing personal experiences and demonstrating successful coping skills.
  4. Advocate for the needs and rights of individuals with mental health challenges within the community and healthcare system.
  5. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement treatment plans that promote recovery and wellness.
  6. Assist individuals in accessing and navigating resources and services to meet their specific needs.
  7. Maintain accurate and confidential records of services provided and progress towards identified goals.
  8. Attend regular training and supervision sessions to enhance knowledge and skills in the field of mental health and peer support.
  9. Participate in outreach and educational activities to promote awareness and reduce stigma surrounding mental health.
  10. Adhere to ethical standards and boundaries while working with sensitive and personal information.
  11. Continuously assess and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and adjust as needed to ensure the best possible outcomes for individuals.
  12. Embrace diversity and cultural competency in working with individuals from different backgrounds and experiences.
  13. Maintain a positive and professional attitude towards individuals, colleagues, and the organization as a whole.
  14. Stay informed about current trends and developments in the mental health field and apply them to provide the best possible support to individuals.
  15. Engage in self-care practices to maintain personal wellness and avoid burnout.

Job Qualifications
  • Completion Of A Certified Peer Specialist Training Program Approved By The New York State Office Of Mental Health.

  • At Least Two Years Of Personal Lived Experience With A Mental Health Condition And The Ability To Effectively Utilize That Experience To Support And Inspire Others.

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills, Including The Ability To Establish Rapport And Build Relationships With Individuals In Recovery.

  • Knowledge Of The Mental Health Service Delivery System In New York State And Understanding Of Recovery-Oriented Principles And Practices.

  • Ability To Maintain Confidentiality And Adhere To Ethical Standards, As Well As A Willingness To Continuously Engage In Professional Development And Training Opportunities.
