- Provide peer support to individuals with mental health challenges, using personal experience and knowledge of mental health recovery to guide and inspire them on their journey to wellness.
- Build meaningful and supportive relationships with individuals, serving as a role model and advocate for their recovery.
- Assist individuals in setting and achieving their recovery goals and developing coping strategies to manage their mental health challenges.
- Collaborate with other mental health professionals and treatment teams to provide comprehensive and integrated care for individuals.
- Utilize effective communication skills to actively listen, empathize, and provide non-judgmental support to individuals.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards in all interactions with individuals.
- Stay up-to-date on current research, trends, and best practices in mental health recovery to continuously improve the quality of support provided.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance knowledge and skills.
- Promote wellness and resilience among individuals by providing education on self-care, healthy coping mechanisms, and community resources.
- Document all interactions and progress made by individuals in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with community organizations and agencies to advocate for the needs of individuals with mental health challenges.
- Maintain a positive and supportive attitude towards individuals, while promoting a safe and inclusive environment.
- Adhere to all state and federal regulations and guidelines related to peer support services.
- Participate in team meetings and case conferences to share insights and provide input on the treatment plan for individuals.
- Serve as a positive representative of the agency, promoting its mission and values to the community.
Completion Of A Recognized Certified Peer Specialist Training Program: Applicants For The Certified Peer Specialist 1 Position At State Of New York Must Have Successfully Completed A Recognized Training Program In Order To Be Considered For The Role. This Program Should Cover Topics Such As Understanding Mental Health Conditions, Effective Communication, And Supporting Individuals In Their Recovery Journey.
Certification As A Certified Peer Specialist (Cps): Candidates Must Possess A Valid Cps Certification From A Recognized Agency Such As The New York Peer Specialist Certification Board. This Certification Demonstrates A Deep Understanding Of The Peer Support Model And The Ability To Effectively Use Personal Experience To Support Others In Their Recovery.
At Least Two Years Of Personal Lived Experience With A Mental Health Condition: The State Of New York Values Individuals Who Have Personal Experience With Mental Health Conditions And Can Use This Experience To Help Others. Applicants Must Have At Least Two Years Of Personal Lived Experience With A Mental Health Condition To Be Considered For The Certified Peer Specialist 1 Job.
Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: As A Certified Peer Specialist 1, You Will Be Working Closely With Individuals Who Are On Their Recovery Journey. Therefore, The Ability To Effectively Communicate, Listen, And Build Rapport With Others Is Essential. Strong Interpersonal Skills Are Also Important In Working Collaboratively With Other Members Of The Mental Health Team.
