As a Permanency Specialist, you will play a vital role in ensuring that children in the foster care system find safe and loving permanent homes.   1. Conduct thorough and timely assessments of children and families to determine their needs and identify potential adoptive or permanent homes.
  2. Work closely with social workers, case managers, and other professionals to develop and implement a comprehensive permanency plan for each child.
  3. Facilitate and coordinate meetings and discussions with birth parents, foster parents, and potential adoptive families to ensure a collaborative approach in finding a suitable permanent home for the child.
  4. Provide support and guidance to children and families throughout the permanency process, including attending court hearings and providing resources for legal and financial assistance.
  5. Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of all interactions and progress made towards achieving permanency for each child.
  6. Collaborate with community organizations and agencies to identify potential resources and support services for children and families involved in the foster care system.
  7. Participate in regular training and development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills related to permanency planning and child welfare.
  8. Adhere to all state and federal laws, regulations, and policies related to child welfare and permanency planning.
  9. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive information and situations.
  10. Demonstrate a strong commitment to the mission and values of the State of Illinois and the Department of Children and Family Services.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Social Work Or A Related Field: A Permanency Specialist At The State Of Illinois Should Have A Strong Educational Background In Social Work Or A Related Field. This Will Provide Them With The Necessary Knowledge And Skills To Effectively Work With Children And Families In The Child Welfare System.

  • Experience In Child Welfare: Previous Experience Working In The Child Welfare System Is Essential For A Permanency Specialist. This Will Ensure That They Have A Thorough Understanding Of The Policies, Procedures, And Laws Related To Child Welfare In The State Of Illinois.

  • Knowledge Of Permanency Planning: Permanency Specialists Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Permanency Planning And Be Able To Develop And Implement Effective Permanency Plans For Children In Foster Care. This Includes Knowledge Of Adoption, Guardianship, And Reunification Processes.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: Working With Children And Families In The Child Welfare System Requires Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills. Permanency Specialists Should Be Able To Effectively Communicate With Diverse Populations And Build Strong Relationships With Clients.

  • Ability To Work Independently And As Part Of A Team: The Role Of A Permanency Specialist Requires A Balance Of Independent Work And Collaboration With Team Members. Candidates Should Have The Ability To Work Independently And Make Decisions, As Well As Work Effectively As Part Of A Team To Achieve Common Goals.
