Job Description

  1. Conduct research on historical buildings and landmarks in the state of Illinois to determine their historical significance and ensure accurate preservation.
  2. Develop and maintain documentation related to the history and cultural heritage of the state, including written reports, photographs, and maps.
  3. Collaborate with other team members, including historians, architects, and engineers, to develop preservation plans and strategies.
  4. Inspect historical sites and buildings to identify any potential issues or concerns, and develop solutions to address them.
  5. Utilize specialized tools and equipment to repair, restore, and maintain historical structures, ensuring that they are preserved for future generations.
  6. Work with local communities and organizations to educate and promote the importance of preserving our state's history and cultural heritage.
  7. Monitor and manage budgets for preservation projects, ensuring that resources are utilized efficiently and effectively.
  8. Stay up-to-date on new preservation techniques and technology, and implement them as appropriate to improve the preservation process.
  9. Ensure compliance with state and federal laws and regulations related to historic preservation.
  10. Maintain accurate records and documentation of all preservation activities and projects.
  11. Participate in community outreach programs and events to raise awareness of the state's rich history and the importance of preserving it.
  12. Collaborate with government agencies, contractors, and vendors to coordinate preservation projects and ensure timely completion.
  13. Identify and assess potential hazards or risks to historical structures and take appropriate measures to mitigate them.
  14. Provide guidance and support to other team members and volunteers involved in preservation projects.
  15. Continuously evaluate and improve preservation processes and procedures to ensure the highest level of quality and efficiency.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Historic Preservation, Architecture, Or A Related Field.

  • At Least 2 Years Of Experience In A Professional Setting, Preferably In Historic Preservation.

  • Knowledge Of Federal And State Historic Preservation Laws, Regulations, And Guidelines.

  • Experience Conducting Historic Research, Surveys, And Documentation.

  • Strong Communication And Organizational Skills, With The Ability To Work Independently And Collaboratively With A Team.
