- Maintain a safe and secure environment for staff and inmates at the Stateville Correctional Center.
- Enforce all facility rules and regulations to ensure the safety and security of the facility.
- Monitor and supervise inmates to prevent any potential disturbances or conflicts.
- Conduct regular checks and inspections of inmate living areas and common areas.
- Respond to emergencies and incidents in a prompt and professional manner.
- Maintain accurate records and reports of all activities and incidents.
- Communicate effectively with inmates, staff, and other agencies.
- Participate in ongoing training and development programs to improve skills and knowledge.
- Adhere to all departmental policies and procedures.
- Serve as a positive role model for inmates and promote a safe and respectful environment.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
- Conduct searches and inspections of inmates and their belongings.
- Escort inmates to and from various locations within the facility.
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures to ensure the well-being of all individuals in the facility.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Report any safety or security concerns to superiors in a timely manner.
- Continuously monitor for potential security breaches and take appropriate action to prevent them.
- Provide support and assistance to other staff members as needed.
- Uphold the values and mission of the Illinois Department of Corrections.
- Act as a positive representative of the facility and department at all times.
High School Diploma Or Equivalent: Candidates For The Doc Stateville Cc Correctional Officer Trainee Job Must Have A High School Diploma Or Equivalent To Be Considered.
Physical Fitness: The Job Of A Correctional Officer Is Physically Demanding, And Candidates Must Be Able To Pass A Physical Fitness Test To Ensure They Are Capable Of Performing The Duties Required.
Excellent Communication Skills: Correctional Officers Must Be Able To Communicate Effectively With Inmates, Colleagues, And Superiors. This Includes Both Verbal And Written Communication.
Criminal Justice Knowledge: Candidates Should Possess Knowledge Of Criminal Justice Procedures, Laws, And Regulations. A Degree In Criminal Justice Or Related Field Is Preferred.
Ability To Work In A High-Stress Environment: Working In A Correctional Facility Can Be A High-Stress Environment, And Candidates Must Be Able To Remain Calm And Composed In Difficult Situations. They Must Also Be Able To Handle Unpredictable And Potentially Dangerous Situations.
