- Maintain the safety and security of the facility by enforcing rules and regulations.
- Monitor inmate behavior and ensure compliance with facility policies.
- Conduct regular patrols and inspections of the facility and inmate living areas.
- Respond to emergencies and incidents in a timely and effective manner.
- Communicate effectively with inmates, staff, and visitors to maintain a safe and respectful environment.
- Facilitate rehabilitation and reintegration for inmates by providing support and guidance.
- Complete required training and maintain knowledge of policies, procedures, and laws related to corrections.
- Demonstrate a strong sense of integrity and ethical behavior at all times.
- Remain calm and composed in stressful situations and de-escalate conflicts when necessary.
- Document and report any incidents or unusual occurrences according to protocol.
- Collaborate with other staff members to ensure the smooth operation of the facility.
- Uphold the mission and values of the Illinois Department of Corrections.
- Continuously assess and improve upon the safety and security measures in the facility.
- Maintain professionalism and positive relationships with coworkers, inmates, and the public.
- Adhere to all state and federal laws and regulations related to corrections.

High School Diploma Or Ged: Applicants Must Have A Minimum Of A High School Diploma Or Equivalent In Order To Be Considered For The Correctional Officer Trainee Position At Sheridan Cc.
Completed Correctional Officer Training Program: Candidates Must Have Successfully Completed A State-Approved Correctional Officer Training Program, Or Be Currently Enrolled In One, In Order To Be Eligible For The Position.
Physical Fitness: Correctional Officers Are Required To Maintain A High Level Of Physical Fitness In Order To Perform Their Duties Effectively And Safely. Therefore, Candidates Must Pass A Physical Fitness Test As Part Of The Application Process.
Strong Communication Skills: Effective Communication Is Crucial In The Correctional Setting, As Officers Must Be Able To Communicate With Inmates, Fellow Officers, And Other Staff Members. Candidates Must Possess Strong Verbal And Written Communication Skills.
Clean Criminal Record: Due To The Sensitive Nature Of The Job, Candidates Must Pass A Thorough Background Check And Have A Clean Criminal Record In Order To Be Considered For The Position. Any Felony Convictions Or Serious Misdemeanors May Disqualify An Applicant From The Job.
