- Maintain the safety and security of the correctional facility at all times.
- Monitor and supervise inmates to ensure compliance with rules and regulations.
- Conduct regular security checks and inspections of the facility and report any concerns or issues to superiors.
- Enforce all policies and procedures of the DOC and ensure inmates are following them.
- Communicate effectively with inmates, staff, and other departments within the facility.
- Provide support and guidance to inmates in accordance with the facility's rehabilitation and reintegration programs.
- Respond to emergencies and incidents within the facility, taking appropriate action and following established protocols.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of inmate activities, incidents, and behaviors.
- Conduct searches of inmates and their living areas to ensure contraband is not present.
- Participate in training and educational programs to continuously develop skills and knowledge related to the job.
- Serve as a role model and uphold the values and standards of the DOC.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to ensure the well-being of staff and inmates.
- Act professionally and maintain composure in challenging and high-stress situations.
- Collaborate with other staff members to ensure the smooth operation of the facility.
- Attend and participate in meetings and workshops as required.
- Follow all departmental policies and procedures, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality and discretion in all matters related to the job.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by superiors.
High School Diploma Or Equivalent: Candidates Must Have A Minimum Of A High School Diploma Or Ged To Be Considered For The Position.
Valid Driver's License: A Valid Driver's License Is Required For The Position As Officers May Be Required To Transport Inmates Or Travel To Different Facilities.
Physical And Mental Fitness: Correctional Officers Must Be Physically Fit And Able To Handle The Demands Of The Job, Including Standing And Walking For Extended Periods Of Time. They Must Also Have The Mental Fortitude To Handle Stressful Situations And Remain Calm Under Pressure.
Background Check And Drug Testing: Candidates Must Pass A Comprehensive Background Check And Drug Test To Be Considered For The Position. Any History Of Criminal Activity Or Drug Use May Disqualify A Candidate.
Completion Of Basic Training: All Correctional Officer Trainees Must Complete A Basic Training Program Approved By The Illinois Department Of Corrections. This Training Will Provide The Necessary Knowledge And Skills To Perform The Job Effectively And Safely.
