Job Description

Welcome to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, where preserving our state's rich history and natural resources is at the heart of everything we do. We are currently seeking a dedicated and passionate Conservation/Historic Preservation Worker to join our team and help us protect and maintain our state's historical landmarks and natural areas. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to make a tangible impact on the preservation of Illinois' heritage while working alongside a diverse and talented group of individuals.   1. Conduct conservation and preservation activities for historical landmarks and natural areas within the state of Illinois.
  2. Perform regular inspections and maintenance tasks to ensure the proper upkeep and protection of historical sites and natural resources.
  3. Collaborate with other team members to develop and implement preservation plans and strategies.
  4. Conduct research and gather information on historical sites and natural resources to inform preservation efforts.
  5. Educate and engage the public on the importance of preserving Illinois' history and natural resources through various outreach activities.
  6. Monitor and enforce regulations and guidelines for the protection of historical sites and natural areas.
  7. Work with local and state agencies to coordinate preservation efforts and secure necessary permits and approvals.
  8. Maintain detailed records and reports of all preservation activities and any potential threats to historical sites and natural resources.
  9. Assist in the planning and execution of preservation projects, including the restoration of historical structures and the rehabilitation of natural areas.
  10. Continuously stay updated on best practices and advancements in conservation and historic preservation techniques.

Job Qualifications
  • Knowledge Of Local And State Historic Preservation Laws And Regulations.

  • Bachelor's Degree In Historic Preservation, Conservation, Architecture, Or Related Field.

  • At Least 2 Years Of Experience In Historic Preservation Or Conservation Work.

  • Experience With Preservation Techniques And Materials, Such As Archival Methods And Building Restoration.

  • Strong Communication And Organizational Skills, With The Ability To Work Independently And As Part Of A Team.
