Job Description

  1. Manage and oversee all aspects of state-owned farms, including crop production, livestock management, and maintenance of farm infrastructure.
  2. Develop and implement sustainable farming practices that prioritize the preservation of natural resources and the promotion of local agriculture.
  3. Work closely with local farmers to provide support, resources, and guidance to help them succeed in their operations.
  4. Create and maintain detailed farm budgets, including forecasting for future expenses and revenue projections.
  5. Monitor and analyze farm production data to identify areas for improvement and implement strategies to increase efficiency and productivity.
  6. Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations related to agriculture, food safety, and environmental conservation.
  7. Hire, train, and supervise farm staff, including setting performance goals and providing regular feedback and evaluations.
  8. Collaborate with other government agencies, community organizations, and industry stakeholders to promote the growth of the local agriculture industry.
  9. Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers, contractors, and vendors to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement of necessary materials and services.
  10. Participate in outreach and education efforts to raise awareness about sustainable farming practices and the importance of supporting local agriculture.
  11. Maintain accurate records and reports related to farm operations, including production data, financial records, and inventory.
  12. Stay informed about current trends and advancements in sustainable agriculture and incorporate new techniques and technologies into farm operations.
  13. Serve as a representative of the state in promoting sustainable farming practices and supporting the local agriculture industry.
  14. Adhere to all safety protocols and ensure a safe working environment for all farm employees and visitors.
  15. Demonstrate a strong work ethic and a commitment to the overall mission and goals of the state’s agriculture department.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Agriculture Or Related Field: A Farm Manager At State Of Hawaii Should Have A Strong Educational Background In Agriculture, Including Coursework In Crop Production, Soil Science, And Farm Management.

  • Experience In Farm Management: The Ideal Candidate Should Have At Least 3-5 Years Of Experience In Managing A Farm, Preferably In A Tropical Climate. This Will Ensure They Have The Necessary Skills And Knowledge To Effectively Manage The Unique Challenges Of Farming In Hawaii.

  • Knowledge Of Local Regulations And Policies: Hawaii Has Strict Regulations And Policies Related To Agriculture And Land Usage. A Farm Manager Should Have A Thorough Understanding Of These Regulations To Ensure Compliance And Avoid Any Legal Issues.

  • Strong Leadership And Communication Skills: As A Farm Manager, The Individual Will Be Responsible For Overseeing A Team Of Farm Workers And Communicating With Various Stakeholders Such As Government Officials, Suppliers, And Buyers. Strong Leadership And Communication Skills Are Essential For Managing A Successful Farm Operation.
