  1. Operate various types of heavy equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, and loaders to maintain and construct state roads and highways.
  2. Perform routine maintenance and inspections on equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  3. Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while operating equipment.
  4. Communicate with supervisors and team members to coordinate work and ensure project goals are met.
  5. Troubleshoot and resolve equipment malfunctions in a timely manner.
  6. Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, maintenance, and repairs.
  7. Adhere to state and federal regulations and laws related to equipment operation.
  8. Keep work area clean and organized to promote a safe and efficient work environment.
  9. Train and mentor new equipment operators as needed.
  10. Continuously seek opportunities to improve processes and increase efficiency in equipment operation.
  11. Represent the State of Hawaii in a professional manner at all times.
  12. Adhere to work schedules and deadlines to ensure projects are completed on time.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Job Qualifications
  • High School Diploma Or Equivalent: A Minimum Educational Requirement To Be Considered For The Equipment Operator Position At The State Of Hawaii Is A High School Diploma Or Equivalent. This Ensures That The Candidate Has A Basic Level Of Education And Can Understand Instructions And Safety Protocols.

  • Valid Driver's License: A Valid Driver's License Is A Must-Have Qualification For An Equipment Operator At The State Of Hawaii As The Job Requires Operating Heavy Machinery And Vehicles. The Candidate Must Have A Clean Driving Record And Be Able To Obtain And Maintain A Commercial Driver's License (Cdl) If Required.

  • Previous Experience: The State Of Hawaii Prefers Candidates With At Least Two Years Of Experience In Operating Heavy Equipment Such As Bulldozers, Backhoes, And Excavators. Experience In A Construction Or Maintenance Environment Is Also Highly Desirable.

  • Knowledge Of Safety Procedures: An Equipment Operator Must Have Knowledge Of Safety Procedures And Protocols Related To Operating Heavy Equipment. This Includes Knowledge Of Occupational Safety And Health Administration (Osha) Regulations, As Well As State And Local Safety Guidelines.

  • Physical Ability: The Job Of An Equipment Operator Requires Physical Strength, Stamina, And Agility. Candidates Must Be Able To Lift Heavy Objects, Stand For Long Periods, And Operate Machinery For Extended Periods. They Must Also Have Good Hand-Eye Coordination And Depth Perception. A Pre-Employment Physical Test May Be Conducted To Assess The Candidate's Physical Abilities.
