- Conduct orientation and mobility assessments to determine the needs of individuals with vision impairments.
- Develop personalized treatment plans for clients, incorporating a variety of orientation and mobility techniques and vision rehabilitation therapy strategies.
- Provide individual and group orientation and mobility instruction and vision rehabilitation therapy sessions to clients.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop comprehensive support plans for clients.
- Communicate effectively with clients and their families to understand their needs and provide ongoing support.
- Stay up-to-date on the latest research and best practices in orientation and mobility and vision rehabilitation therapy.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of client progress and treatment plans.
- Conduct outreach and education to promote awareness and understanding of visual impairments and the services provided.
- Collaborate with community organizations and resources to provide additional support and resources for clients.
- Attend trainings, conferences, and workshops to enhance skills and knowledge in the field.
- Serve as an advocate for individuals with visual impairments and their rights to independence and empowerment.
- Uphold ethical and professional standards in all interactions with clients, colleagues, and the community.
- Support the overall mission and values of the State of Colorado and the vision rehabilitation program.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas for program improvement and growth.
- Maintain a positive and supportive attitude towards clients and colleagues, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment.
- Continuously assess and evaluate the effectiveness of treatment plans and make necessary adjustments.
- Provide emotional support and encouragement to clients, helping them to build confidence and self-esteem.
- Serve as a resource and mentor for other staff members and students in the field of orientation and mobility and vision rehabilitation therapy.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols in working with clients.
- Complete all administrative tasks, such as writing reports and maintaining client records, accurately and in a timely manner.
Bachelor's Or Master's Degree In Orientation And Mobility Or Vision Rehabilitation Therapy From An Accredited University.
Certification From The Academy For Certification Of Vision Rehabilitation And Education Professionals (Acvrep) As A Certified Orientation And Mobility Specialist (Coms) Or Certified Vision Rehabilitation Therapist (Cvrt).
Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience Working With Individuals Who Are Blind Or Visually Impaired In A Rehabilitation Or Educational Setting.
Knowledge Of State And Federal Laws And Regulations Related To Blindness And Visual Impairment, Including The Americans With Disabilities Act (Ada).
Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Work Collaboratively With Individuals Who Are Blind Or Visually Impaired, Their Families, And Other Professionals.
