Welcome to the State of Colorado's Department of Human Services! We are currently seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Forensic Evaluator to join our team. As a Forensic Evaluator, you will play a crucial role in conducting mental health evaluations for individuals involved in the criminal justice system.   1. Conduct thorough and accurate mental health evaluations for individuals involved in the criminal justice system.
  2. Utilize clinical expertise to assess and diagnose mental health disorders in individuals.
  3. Utilize knowledge of legal processes and procedures to ensure evaluations are conducted in compliance with state and federal laws.
  4. Collaborate with legal professionals, such as attorneys and judges, to provide necessary information and insights for court proceedings.
  5. Communicate evaluation findings in a clear and concise manner, both verbally and in written reports.
  6. Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all aspects of the evaluation process.
  7. Stay up-to-date on current research and best practices in the field of forensic evaluation.
  8. Work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team, including other mental health professionals and legal professionals.
  9. Attend training and professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills.
  10. Advocate for individuals involved in the criminal justice system and provide recommendations for appropriate treatment and rehabilitation.
  11. Maintain accurate and organized records and documentation of evaluations.
  12. Adhere to all department policies and procedures.
  13. Participate in quality assurance and improvement initiatives.
  14. Represent the department in a professional and positive manner.
  15. Continuously monitor and assess potential risks and take appropriate action to mitigate them.
  16. Support a diverse and inclusive work environment.
  17. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Job Qualifications
  • Graduate Degree In Psychology Or Related Field: A Forensic Evaluator At The State Of Colorado Would Typically Require A Graduate Degree In Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Or A Related Field. This Ensures That The Candidate Has A Strong Foundation In The Principles And Theories Of Psychology, As Well As Specialized Training In Forensic Evaluation.

  • Experience In Forensic Assessment And Evaluation: The Ideal Candidate For A Forensic Evaluator Position At The State Of Colorado Would Have Prior Experience In Conducting Forensic Evaluations. This Could Include Experience In Areas Such As Competency To Stand Trial, Mental State At The Time Of The Offense, And Risk Assessment.

  • Knowledge Of State And Federal Laws Related To Mental Health: A Crucial Aspect Of A Forensic Evaluator's Job Is To Understand The Legal System And How It Relates To Mental Health. Therefore, A Candidate Should Possess A Thorough Understanding Of State And Federal Laws Related To Mental Health, Such As The Mental Health Code And The Criminal Code.

  • Strong Analytical And Report Writing Skills: Forensic Evaluations Involve Gathering And Analyzing A Lot Of Information, And Then Presenting It In A Clear And Concise Manner. As Such, A Candidate For This Role Should Have Excellent Analytical Skills And Be Able To Write Comprehensive And Well-Organized Reports.

  • Certification Or Licensure In A Relevant Field: While Not Always A Requirement, Having Certification Or Licensure In A Relevant Field, Such As Forensic Psychology Or Clinical Psychology, Can Be Beneficial For A Forensic Evaluator Role. This Demonstrates That The Candidate Has Met Certain Standards Of Training And Experience In Their Field.
