We’re looking for an Executive Editor with a sharp eye for detail and a passion for children’s literature to join our team at Scholastic. The ideal candidate will bring a deep knowledge of the publishing industry, a comprehensive understanding of children’s literature, and the creative vision to take our publishing program to the next level. As an Executive Editor, you’ll work closely with authors, illustrators, literary agents, and other publishing professionals to ensure the highest-quality content for our readers.To be successful in this role, you should have a minimum of 8 years of experience in the publishing industry, 5 years of which should be in an editorial role, as well as a Master’s degree in English, Journalism, or a related field. You should also have a track record of success in working with authors and/or illustrators, as well as excellent communication and organizational skills. Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive editorial strategy for the Scholastic publishing program.
- Lead the selection, acquisition, and development of children’s literature titles.
- Work collaboratively with authors, illustrators, literary agents, and other publishing professionals.
- Manage the editing process, from acquisition to final product.
- Ensure that all titles meet the highest standards of quality and accuracy.
- Read and evaluate manuscripts for potential publication.
- Provide feedback and guidance to authors, illustrators, and other staff.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of the children’s literature market.
- Ensure adherence to Scholastic’s editorial guidelines and policies.
- Monitor the performance of titles and analyze trends in the children’s literature industry.
