- Conduct thorough family and medical history evaluations to identify potential genetic concerns and make appropriate referrals for genetic testing.
- Educate patients and their families about genetic conditions, inheritance patterns, and potential health implications.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to develop comprehensive care plans that address patients' genetic needs and concerns.
- Stay up-to-date on current research, advancements, and guidelines in the field of genetics to provide the most accurate and relevant information to patients.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including genetic testing results, counseling sessions, and treatment plans.
- Offer emotional support and resources to patients and families as they navigate potential genetic health risks and make important healthcare decisions.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to the development of genetic counseling programs and services.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and accreditation standards related to genetic counseling services.
- Act as a patient advocate, promoting patient autonomy and informed decision-making while also respecting their cultural, religious, and personal beliefs.
- Contribute to the training and education of medical students, residents, and other healthcare professionals on the role of genetic counseling in patient care.
- Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards in all aspects of patient care and adhere to the Code of Ethics for Genetic Counselors.
A Master's Degree In Genetic Counseling From An Accredited Program.
Certification By The American Board Of Genetic Counseling (Abgc) Or American Board Of Medical Genetics And Genomics (Abmgg).
Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience In Genetic Counseling In A Healthcare Setting.
Knowledge Of Relevant Medical And Scientific Principles Related To Genetics And Genetic Disorders.
Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills To Effectively Counsel Patients And Collaborate With Healthcare Professionals.
