Welcome to the exciting world of summer camp at Rutgers University! As a camp counselor, you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of our campers while gaining valuable experience in leadership, communication, and problem-solving.   1. Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of campers at all times.
  2. Plan, organize, and lead engaging and age-appropriate activities for campers.
  3. Foster a positive and inclusive environment for campers to learn, grow, and have fun.
  4. Serve as a role model for campers by demonstrating responsibility, respect, and good judgment.
  5. Communicate effectively with campers, their families, and fellow staff members.
  6. Manage and resolve conflicts among campers in a calm and professional manner.
  7. Assist in the daily operations of the camp, including set-up, clean-up, and maintenance of camp facilities.
  8. Attend and actively participate in all required staff meetings and training sessions.
  9. Adhere to all camp policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
  10. Collaborate with other camp counselors and staff to ensure a smooth and successful camp experience for all.
  11. Provide feedback and suggestions for program improvements to camp leadership.
  12. Maintain accurate and organized records, such as attendance, incident reports, and camper evaluations.
  13. Be a positive ambassador for the camp and the university at all times.
  14. Continuously strive to create a fun, engaging, and memorable experience for campers.

Job Qualifications
  • Experience Working With Children: A Summer Camp Counselor At Rutgers University Should Have Prior Experience Working With Children In A Camp Or Educational Setting. This Will Help Them Understand The Needs And Interests Of The Campers And Effectively Engage With Them.

  • Knowledge Of Camp Activities: The Ideal Candidate Should Be Familiar With A Variety Of Camp Activities, Such As Sports, Arts And Crafts, Outdoor Games, And Team-Building Exercises. This Will Allow Them To Plan And Lead Engaging Activities For Campers Of Different Ages And Interests.

  • First Aid And Cpr Certification: Safety Is A Top Priority At The Summer Camp, And The Counselor Should Be Prepared To Handle Any Potential Emergencies. Having A Valid First Aid And Cpr Certification Will Ensure That The Counselor Can Provide Immediate Assistance In Case Of Injuries Or Accidents.

  • Strong Communication Skills: A Summer Camp Counselor Must Be Able To Communicate Effectively With Campers, Parents, And Other Staff Members. They Should Be Able To Listen Actively, Give Instructions Clearly, And Resolve Conflicts Diplomatically.

  • Team Player: Working At A Summer Camp Requires Collaborating With A Team Of Counselors And Other Staff Members. The Candidate Should Be A Team Player Who Can Work Well With Others, Take On Different Roles When Needed, And Contribute To A Positive And Inclusive Camp Environment.
