We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join our team as Day Camp Counselors at Rutgers University. As a counselor, you will have the opportunity to create unforgettable experiences for campers while fostering a love of nature and the environment.   1. Greet and welcome campers and their families to Rutgers Gardens with a friendly and positive attitude.
  2. Plan, organize, and lead outdoor activities, games, and educational experiences for campers.
  3. Ensure the safety and well-being of campers at all times.
  4. Serve as a role model for campers by demonstrating positive and responsible behavior.
  5. Create a supportive and inclusive environment that promotes teamwork, respect, and cooperation among campers.
  6. Communicate with parents and guardians about their child's progress and any concerns that may arise.
  7. Assist in the set-up and clean-up of camp activities and facilities.
  8. Adhere to all camp policies and procedures, including emergency protocols.
  9. Attend staff meetings and training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.
  10. Collaborate with other counselors and staff to plan and implement special events and programs.
  11. Maintain accurate records and reports related to campers, activities, and incidents.
  12. Be knowledgeable about Rutgers Gardens and its history, plants, and wildlife to share with campers.
  13. Continually monitor and address the needs and behaviors of campers to ensure a positive and enjoyable experience for all.
  14. Foster a love of nature and the environment in campers through engaging and educational activities.
  15. Maintain a positive and professional attitude at all times and serve as a positive representative of Rutgers Gardens.

Job Qualifications
  • Experience Working With Children: The Ideal Candidate Should Have Prior Experience Working With Children In A Camp, Educational, Or Recreational Setting. This Could Include Experience As A Camp Counselor, Teacher, Or Babysitter.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: As A Camp Counselor, The Candidate Will Be Responsible For Leading And Supervising A Group Of Children. Therefore, They Should Have Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills To Effectively Interact With Campers, Parents, And Other Staff Members.

  • Knowledge Of Outdoor Education And Environmental Studies: Rutgers Gardens Day Camp Focuses On Educating Children About The Environment And Sustainability. The Candidate Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Outdoor Education, Environmental Studies, And Related Topics To Effectively Lead Camp Activities And Teach Campers.

  • Cpr And First Aid Certification: The Safety And Well-Being Of Campers Is Of Utmost Importance. The Ideal Candidate Should Be Certified In Cpr And First Aid Or Be Willing To Obtain Certification Before The Start Of Camp.

  • Availability And Flexibility: The Camp Runs For Several Weeks During The Summer, And The Candidate Should Be Available To Work For The Entire Duration. They Should Also Be Flexible With Their Schedule, As Camp Activities May Take Place On Weekends Or Outside Of Regular Business Hours.
