
Public Safety Telecommunicator

- Respond to emergency calls and dispatch the appropriate resources in a timely and efficient manner.
- Remain calm and composed during high-stress situations in order to effectively communicate with callers and first responders.
- Maintain accurate records of all calls and incidents, ensuring that all necessary information is documented and reported.
- Monitor and operate various communication systems, including radios, telephones, and computer-aided dispatch systems.
- Collaborate with other members of the Rutgers University Public Safety team to coordinate and prioritize response to emergency situations.
- Provide clear and accurate instructions to callers in emergency situations, such as administering CPR or first aid.
- Maintain a strong understanding of emergency protocols and procedures, as well as the layout of the Rutgers University campus.
- Monitor and respond to alarm systems, including fire alarms, intrusion alarms, and panic alarms.
- Stay up-to-date on all training and certifications required for the position, including CPR, first aid, and emergency dispatch procedures.
- Provide excellent customer service to the Rutgers University community, ensuring that all calls are handled professionally and with empathy.
- Remain vigilant and report any suspicious or concerning activity to appropriate authorities.
- Attend and actively participate in team meetings and trainings to stay informed on updates and changes in policies and procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality and follow all privacy laws and regulations when handling sensitive information.
- Comply with all Rutgers University Public Safety policies and procedures, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.

Knowledge Of Emergency Response Protocols And Procedures: A Public Safety Telecommunicator At Rutgers University Should Possess A Thorough Understanding Of Emergency Response Protocols And Procedures, Including Handling Emergency Calls, Dispatching Appropriate Personnel, And Coordinating With Other Agencies.
Excellent Communication Skills: Effective Communication Is A Critical Aspect Of The Job, And The Ability To Communicate Clearly And Concisely Is Essential. A Public Safety Telecommunicator Should Be Able To Relay Information Accurately And Efficiently To Emergency Responders, As Well As Provide Clear Instructions To Callers In Distress.
Familiarity With Emergency Communication Systems: Rutgers University Utilizes Various Emergency Communication Systems, Including Radio, Telephone, And Computer-Aided Dispatch. A Qualified Candidate Should Have Experience In Operating These Systems And Be Able To Quickly Adapt To New Technologies.
