- Lead the strategic direction and vision for the Center for Research Computing at Rice University.
- Oversee the day-to-day operations and management of the research computing resources.
- Collaborate with faculty, researchers, and other university stakeholders to identify and prioritize research computing needs.
- Develop and implement plans for the growth and enhancement of research computing resources, including hardware, software, and services.
- Manage the budget for the Center for Research Computing and ensure efficient use of resources.
- Build and maintain partnerships and collaborations with external organizations to support research initiatives.
- Stay current on emerging technologies and trends in research computing and make recommendations for their integration into the university's resources.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to a team of research computing professionals, including hiring, training, and performance management.
- Communicate with stakeholders and provide regular updates on the progress and impact of the research computing initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with relevant policies, regulations, and ethical standards.
- Represent Rice University and the Center for Research Computing at conferences, meetings, and other events.
- Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the Center for Research Computing.
- Develop and maintain relationships with research funding agencies to secure additional resources for the center.
- Prepare and submit reports on the center's activities, progress, and impact to university leadership.
- Act as a liaison between the Center for Research Computing and other departments and organizations within the university to promote interdisciplinary research collaborations.
Advanced Degree In Computer Science Or Related Field: A Director At The Center For Research Computing Should Possess A Minimum Of A Master's Degree In Computer Science Or A Related Field. A Phd Is Preferred.
Extensive Experience In High-Performance Computing: The Ideal Candidate Should Have A Minimum Of 5-7 Years Of Experience In The Field Of High-Performance Computing, With A Strong Understanding Of Parallel Computing, Scientific Computing, And Data Analytics.
Leadership Skills: The Director Should Have A Proven Track Record Of Leadership, With The Ability To Manage And Mentor A Team Of Researchers And Support Staff. They Should Also Have Experience In Building And Maintaining Collaborations With Other Research Institutions And Industry Partners.
Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: As A Director, The Candidate Will Be Required To Communicate Complex Technical Concepts To A Variety Of Stakeholders, Including Faculty, Researchers, And It Professionals. Therefore, Excellent Communication Skills, Both Written And Verbal, Are Essential For This Role.
Knowledge Of Grant Writing And Funding Opportunities: The Director Should Be Well-Versed In Grant Writing And Have Experience Securing Funding For Research Computing Projects. They Should Also Have A Strong Understanding Of Funding Opportunities At National And International Levels.
