
Assistant Athletic Director for Counseling and Sports Psychology

- Develop and implement a comprehensive counseling and sports psychology program for student-athletes, addressing their mental, emotional, and psychological well-being.
- Provide individual and group counseling sessions to student-athletes, addressing issues such as performance anxiety, stress management, and personal development.
- Collaborate with coaches, trainers, and other staff members to identify and address the specific needs of student-athletes in regards to mental health and performance.
- Conduct mental health assessments and create personalized action plans for student-athletes in need of additional support.
- Coordinate with campus resources and outside mental health professionals to provide additional support for student-athletes when necessary.
- Serve as a liaison between the athletics department and university counseling services, ensuring that student-athletes have access to all available resources.
- Plan and implement workshops and educational programs on topics such as mental health, mindfulness, and personal development for student-athletes.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions and progress for each student-athlete.
- Stay up-to-date with current trends and best practices in the field of sports psychology and counseling, and integrate them into the program.
- Collaborate with other athletic department staff to promote a culture of mental wellness and resiliency among student-athletes.
- Assist in the recruitment and retention of student-athletes by highlighting the comprehensive support and resources available to them.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures related to student-athlete well-being.
- Serve as a mentor and advocate for student-athletes, providing guidance and support in their personal and academic pursuits.
- Participate in departmental meetings and events as a representative of the counseling and sports psychology program.
- Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or other senior staff members.
Advanced Education And Training: The Ideal Candidate Should Possess A Master's Or Doctoral Degree In Counseling, Sports Psychology, Or A Related Field. They Should Also Have Relevant Certifications In Counseling And Therapy.
Experience In Counseling And Sports Psychology: The Candidate Should Have A Minimum Of 5 Years Of Experience In Providing Counseling And Mental Health Support To Student-Athletes. They Should Also Have A Strong Understanding Of Sports Psychology Principles And Techniques.
Knowledge Of Ncaa Regulations: The Assistant Athletic Director Should Have A Thorough Understanding Of Ncaa Rules And Regulations, Particularly As They Pertain To Student-Athlete Mental Health And Well-Being.
Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: The Role Will Require Regular Interaction With Student-Athletes, Coaches, And Other Staff Members. The Ideal Candidate Should Have Excellent Communication, Counseling, And Interpersonal Skills To Effectively Support And Guide Student-Athletes.
Leadership And Team Management Experience: The Assistant Athletic Director Will Oversee A Team Of Counselors And Sports Psychologists. Therefore, The Candidate Should Have Prior Experience In Team Management, Including Hiring, Training, And Evaluating Staff Members. They Should Also Possess Strong Leadership Skills To Effectively Guide The Team In Providing Counseling And Mental Health Services.
