- Conduct comprehensive sleep studies: Perform polysomnographic testing on patients, including monitoring and recording various physiological parameters such as brain waves, eye movements, and breathing patterns.
- Analyze and interpret data: Evaluate sleep study results to identify and diagnose sleep disorders, such as sleep apnea, narcolepsy, and insomnia. Provide accurate and detailed reports to assist physicians in developing treatment plans.
- Administer treatment: Administer and monitor continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy, oxygen therapy, and other treatment modalities as prescribed by physicians. Educate patients on the proper use and maintenance of equipment.
- Maintain equipment and records: Ensure all equipment is properly set up and calibrated for each patient. Keep accurate records of patient information and sleep study results in accordance with hospital protocols and HIPAA guidelines.
- Provide patient support and comfort: Create a safe and comfortable environment for patients during sleep studies. Address any concerns or questions they may have and provide emotional support as needed.
- Collaborate with healthcare team: Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care for patients with sleep disorders. Communicate effectively and share relevant information to ensure coordinated care.
- Stay up-to-date on industry developments: Keep current with advancements in sleep medicine and participate in ongoing education and training to maintain knowledge and skills.
- Adhere to safety protocols: Follow all safety and infection control protocols to maintain patient safety and prevent the spread of illness.
- Uphold hospital values: Represent the hospital and its mission by providing compassionate and personalized care to every patient. Adhere to hospital policies and procedures and maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
- Collaborate on quality improvement initiatives: Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance the delivery of sleep medicine services and improve patient outcomes. Identify areas for improvement and make suggestions for process enhancements.
A Degree Or Certification In Polysomnography: Candidates Must Have A Bachelor's Degree In Polysomnography Or A Related Field, Or Hold A Certification From The Board Of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (Brpt).
Experience In Sleep Disorder Diagnostics And Treatment: Previous Experience In Conducting And Interpreting Sleep Studies, As Well As Knowledge Of Various Sleep Disorders And Treatment Options, Is Preferred.
Knowledge Of Medical Equipment And Technology: Polysomnographers Must Be Familiar With Various Medical Devices And Technology Used In Sleep Studies, Such As Eeg, Ekg, And Respiratory Monitoring Equipment.
Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: As Polysomnographers Often Work Closely With Patients, Physicians, And Other Healthcare Professionals, Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills Are Essential For This Role.
Attention To Detail And Ability To Work Independently: Polysomnographers Must Be Detail-Oriented And Have The Ability To Work Independently To Ensure Accurate And Timely Completion Of Sleep Studies. They Should Also Be Able To Troubleshoot Equipment And Address Any Issues That May Arise During A Study.
