
Registered Nurse (RN) - Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner

- Conduct thorough and compassionate medical examinations of patients who have experienced sexual assault.
- Collect and document forensic evidence according to established protocols and procedures.
- Provide emotional support and crisis intervention to patients and their families during and after the exam.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary team members, including law enforcement, social workers, and advocates, to coordinate care for patients.
- Educate patients about their rights and options for reporting and seeking further medical, legal, and emotional support.
- Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of patient care and evidence collection.
- Adhere to all legal and ethical standards and maintain patient confidentiality.
- Stay current on best practices and developments in sexual assault and forensic nursing through continuing education and training.
- Serve as an advocate for survivors of sexual assault and promote a trauma-informed approach to care.
- Participate in on-call rotations and respond to emergencies as needed.
- Collaborate with community organizations and agencies to promote awareness and prevention of sexual assault.
- Comply with all organizational policies and procedures to ensure quality and safety of patient care.
- Participate in quality improvement and assurance activities to enhance the program and services provided.
- Serve as a mentor and resource for other staff members, including training and educating new staff on sexual assault nursing practices.
- Demonstrate professionalism and empathy in all interactions with patients, families, and colleagues.
Registered Nurse License: The Candidate Must Possess An Active And Unrestricted Rn License In The State Of South Carolina.
Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Certification: The Candidate Must Have Completed The Required Training And Certification To Become A Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (Sane).
Clinical Experience: The Candidate Must Have A Minimum Of 2 Years Of Clinical Experience As A Registered Nurse, Preferably In An Emergency Department Or Forensic Nursing Setting.
Knowledge Of Forensic Evidence Collection: The Candidate Must Have A Thorough Understanding Of Forensic Evidence Collection Procedures And Be Able To Accurately Collect, Document, And Preserve Evidence In Accordance With Legal Standards.
Compassion And Empathy: The Candidate Must Possess Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills, As Well As The Ability To Provide Compassionate And Sensitive Care To Survivors Of Sexual Assault. This Includes Understanding The Physical And Emotional Effects Of Trauma And Being Able To Provide Non-Judgmental Support To Survivors.
