- Provide interpretation services for American Sign Language (ASL) to facilitate effective communication between deaf or hard of hearing patients and medical staff.
- Ensure accuracy and clarity in all interpreted communications, including medical terminology and sensitive information.
- Act as a bridge between the deaf or hard of hearing community and the medical staff, promoting cultural sensitivity and understanding.
- Assist in scheduling appointments and coordinating interpreter services for patients with hearing impairments.
- Collaborate with medical staff to ensure that all patient information and medical instructions are accurately conveyed.
- Stay up-to-date on medical terminology and procedures in order to provide accurate interpretation services.
- Maintain confidentiality of all patient information and adhere to HIPAA guidelines.
- Provide support and guidance to deaf or hard of hearing patients to help them navigate the healthcare system.
- Communicate any challenges or concerns to the appropriate medical staff to ensure the best possible care for patients.
- Maintain a positive and welcoming demeanor to create a comfortable and inclusive environment for all patients.
- Attend training and professional development opportunities to enhance ASL skills and knowledge of medical terminology.
- Act as an ambassador for Prisma Health and promote a culture of inclusivity and diversity.
Fluent In American Sign Language (Asl): As An Interpreter At Prisma Health, It Is Essential To Have A High Level Of Proficiency In Asl In Order To Effectively Communicate With Deaf Or Hard-Of-Hearing Patients.
Certification In Asl Interpretation: A Certification From A Recognized Organization, Such As The Registry Of Interpreters For The Deaf (Rid), Demonstrates A Thorough Understanding Of Asl And The Ability To Interpret In A Variety Of Settings.
Knowledge Of Medical Terminology: Interpreting For Healthcare Settings Requires A Strong Understanding Of Medical Terminology And The Ability To Accurately Convey Medical Information To Patients And Healthcare Providers.
Experience In Healthcare Interpreting: Previous Experience In Interpreting For Healthcare Settings, Particularly In A Hospital Or Medical Facility, Is Highly Preferred For This Role.
Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: Being An Interpreter At Prisma Health Also Requires Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills, As You Will Be Working Closely With Patients, Healthcare Providers, And Other Staff Members On A Daily Basis.
