
Patient Observation Attendant - Emergency Room

As a Patient Observation Attendant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our patients while they are under observation in our Emergency Room. - Monitor and observe patients in the Emergency Room who are under observation status
- Follow established protocols and procedures for patient observation
- Report any changes in patient condition to the nursing staff
- Document all observations accurately and in a timely manner
- Assist patients with basic needs, such as toileting and ambulation
- Maintain a safe and clean environment for patients
- Communicate effectively with patients, their families, and other healthcare team members
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide quality care to patients
- Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations
- Participate in ongoing training and education to maintain knowledge of best practices in patient observation
- Handle any emergencies or crises that may arise during patient observation
- Provide emotional support and comfort to patients and their families during their time in the Emergency Room
- Foster a positive and compassionate atmosphere for patients and their families
- Uphold the values and mission of Presbyterian Healthcare Services in all interactions and duties as a Patient Observation Attendant.
Knowledge Of Emergency Room Procedures And Protocols: A Patient Observation Attendant In An Emergency Room Setting Must Possess A Thorough Understanding Of The Standard Operating Procedures And Protocols Followed In The Er Department. This Includes Knowledge Of Emergency Equipment And Supplies, Patient Flow, And Safety Protocols.
Excellent Observational Skills: Patient Observation Attendants Are Responsible For Closely Monitoring Patients And Recognizing Any Changes In Their Condition. Therefore, They Must Have Excellent Observational Skills To Identify Any Signs Of Distress Or Deterioration In A Patient's Condition.
Strong Communication Skills: Effective Communication Is Crucial In An Emergency Room Setting, And Patient Observation Attendants Must Be Able To Communicate Clearly And Efficiently With Patients, Their Families, And Other Healthcare Professionals. This Includes Being Able To Provide Clear And Concise Updates On A Patient's Condition.
Ability To Remain Calm Under Pressure: The Emergency Room Can Be A Fast-Paced And High-Stress Environment, And Patient Observation Attendants Must Be Able To Remain Calm And Composed In Stressful Situations. This Includes Being Able To Make Quick Decisions And Take Appropriate Action In Emergency Situations.
Certification In Basic Life Support (Bls): As A Member Of The Er Team, A Patient Observation Attendant Must Be Certified In Bls. This Certification Ensures That They Are Trained In Basic Life-Saving Techniques And Are Prepared To Respond To Emergencies And Provide Initial Care Until Medical Professionals Arrive.
