  1. Develop and implement effective communication strategies to support state-level advocacy efforts for sexual and reproductive health and rights.
  2. Lead and manage a team of communication professionals to ensure timely and impactful delivery of advocacy messaging.
  3. Stay abreast of current state-level policies, legislation, and political landscape related to sexual and reproductive health and rights.
  4. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify and prioritize key advocacy issues and develop corresponding communication plans.
  5. Serve as a spokesperson for Planned Parenthood at the state level, effectively communicating our mission, values, and advocacy priorities to the media and the public.
  6. Build and maintain relationships with key media outlets and journalists to promote our advocacy messaging and increase visibility for our cause.
  7. Develop and maintain a strong understanding of target audiences and tailor communication strategies accordingly.
  8. Monitor and analyze media coverage and public sentiment related to sexual and reproductive health and rights at the state level.
  9. Work closely with the Director of State Advocacy to align communication strategies with advocacy goals and objectives.
  10. Create and manage budgets for state-level communication efforts and ensure efficient use of resources.
  11. Collaborate with national communications teams to align messaging and branding across all levels of the organization.
  12. Stay up-to-date on emerging communication trends and technologies and make recommendations for incorporating them into advocacy efforts.
  13. Develop and maintain relationships with partner organizations to coordinate and amplify advocacy messaging.
  14. Provide guidance and support to state-level affiliates on effective communication strategies for their local advocacy efforts.
  15. Represent Planned Parenthood at relevant conferences, events, and speaking engagements to promote our advocacy priorities.

Job Qualifications
  • Extensive Experience In Strategic Communications And Advocacy: The Ideal Candidate Should Have A Strong Background In Developing And Executing Effective Communication Strategies In The Public Policy And Advocacy Space. This Includes A Deep Understanding Of Media Relations, Messaging, And Digital Communications.

  • Proven Track Record In State-Level Advocacy: The Director Of State Advocacy Communications Should Have A Successful Track Record In Driving Advocacy Efforts At The State Level. This Includes Experience In Building Coalitions, Engaging Stakeholders, And Working With Policymakers To Advance Advocacy Goals.

  • In-Depth Knowledge Of Reproductive Rights And Health: Planned Parenthood Is A Leading Organization In The Fight For Reproductive Rights And Health. The Ideal Candidate Should Have A Strong Understanding Of These Issues, Including Relevant Policies, Legislation, And The Current Political Landscape.

  • Excellent Written And Verbal Communication Skills: The Director Of State Advocacy Communications Will Be Responsible For Developing And Delivering Messaging For Various Audiences, Including Media, Policymakers, And Supporters. Therefore, Strong Written And Verbal Communication Skills Are Essential For This Role.

  • Strong Leadership And Team Management Abilities: As A Senior Leader Within The Organization, The Director Of State Advocacy Communications Should Have Experience In Managing A Team And Overseeing Multiple Projects Simultaneously. They Should Also Possess Strong Leadership Skills And Be Able To Collaborate Effectively With Colleagues And Partners.
