We are currently seeking a Release of Information Specialist to join our team and play a critical role in the timely and accurate release of medical records. This position requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a thorough understanding of HIPAA regulations.   1. Accurately and efficiently process requests for the release of medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations and Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  2. Maintain strict confidentiality and secure handling of all patient health information.
  3. Review and verify the validity of requests for medical records, including proper authorization and identification.
  4. Organize and maintain physical and electronic medical record files for easy retrieval and tracking.
  5. Collaborate with other departments and external entities to ensure timely and accurate release of medical records.
  6. Monitor and track requests for medical records, ensuring all deadlines are met and records are released within the designated time frame.
  7. Maintain accurate and detailed records of all released medical records, including any necessary correspondence or follow-up.
  8. Identify and report any potential issues or concerns related to the release of medical records, including breaches of confidentiality or non-compliance with regulations.
  9. Continuously update and maintain knowledge of HIPAA regulations and any changes or updates related to the release of medical records.
  10. Provide exceptional customer service and respond to inquiries and concerns from patients, their representatives, and other healthcare providers regarding the release of medical records.
  11. Participate in training and education initiatives related to the release of medical records, including HIPAA compliance and patient privacy.
  12. Collaborate with the IT department to ensure all electronic medical records are secure and properly accessed.
  13. Maintain a professional and positive demeanor when interacting with patients, colleagues, and external entities.
  14. Adhere to all Orlando Health policies and procedures, as well as any legal and ethical standards.
  15. Complete any other related duties or projects as assigned by the supervisor or department leadership.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Health Information Management Or A Related Field.

  • Certified Release Of Information Specialist (Cris) Certification.

  • Minimum Of 2 Years Experience In A Health Information Management Or Release Of Information Role.

  • In-Depth Knowledge Of Hipaa Regulations And Guidelines.

  • Strong Attention To Detail And Excellent Organizational Skills.
