- Conduct thorough assessments of patients' medical and family histories to identify potential genetic risks.
- Review and interpret genetic testing results and explain them to patients in a clear and understandable manner.
- Develop personalized and comprehensive genetic counseling plans for patients based on their specific needs.
- Educate patients and their families about genetic conditions, inheritance patterns, and available treatment options.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals and participate in multidisciplinary conferences to provide the best possible care for patients.
- Stay up-to-date on advancements in genetic testing and counseling and incorporate new techniques and technologies into practice.
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records and documentation.
- Provide emotional support and counseling to patients and their families throughout their genetic testing and counseling process.
- Stay current on ethical and legal issues related to genetic counseling and ensure compliance with all regulations and guidelines.
- Participate in community outreach and education programs to promote awareness and understanding of genetic conditions and services offered by the hospital.
- Act as a liaison between patients and healthcare providers to facilitate communication and ensure coordinated care.
- Participate in research projects and contribute to the development of new genetic counseling protocols and guidelines.
- Serve as a resource and mentor for other healthcare professionals, students, and trainees interested in genetics and genetic counseling.

Education And Certification: A Genetic Counselor, Certified Position At Orlando Health Typically Requires A Master's Degree In Genetic Counseling From An Accredited Program, As Well As Certification From The American Board Of Genetic Counseling (Abgc) Or The American Board Of Medical Genetics And Genomics (Abmgg).
Knowledge Of Genetics And Counseling: This Role Requires A Strong Understanding Of Genetics, Including Genetic Disorders, Inheritance Patterns, And Genetic Testing Methods. In Addition, A Genetic Counselor Should Possess Excellent Counseling Skills To Effectively Communicate Complex Genetic Information To Patients And Their Families.
Experience In A Clinical Setting: Most Employers, Including Orlando Health, Prefer Candidates With Previous Experience In A Clinical Setting, Such As A Hospital Or Genetic Counseling Practice. This Experience Helps Develop The Necessary Skills To Provide Accurate And Compassionate Genetic Counseling Services To Patients.
Familiarity With Ethical And Legal Issues: A Genetic Counselor, Certified Should Have A Solid Understanding Of Ethical And Legal Issues Related To Genetic Counseling, Including Patient Confidentiality, Informed Consent, And Regulations Surrounding Genetic Testing.
Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: This Position Requires Frequent Interactions With Patients, Their Families, And Medical Professionals, Making Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills Essential.
