Job Description

If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you as a Child Life Specialist on our Inpatient Units at Orlando Health. In this role, you will have the opportunity to provide emotional support, education, and play therapy to children and families facing medical challenges. As a member of our team, you will play a crucial role in promoting positive coping mechanisms and enhancing the overall well-being of our young patients. We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate individual with a minimum of a bachelor's degree in Child Life, Child Development, or a related field, as well as certification through the Child Life Certifying Commission.   1. Provide emotional support to children and families facing medical challenges.
  2. Develop and implement age-appropriate therapeutic interventions, including play therapy, to promote positive coping mechanisms.
  3. Conduct assessments to identify the unique needs and preferences of each child and family.
  4. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop individualized care plans for patients.
  5. Educate patients and families on medical procedures and diagnoses in a way that is easily understood.
  6. Maintain a safe and engaging play environment for patients, following infection control protocols.
  7. Document patient progress and interventions in electronic medical records.
  8. Advocate for the psychosocial needs of patients and their families within the healthcare setting.
  9. Stay current on research and best practices in child life and child development.
  10. Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and provide input on patient care.
  11. Collaborate with community organizations and resources to provide additional support for patients and families.
  12. Provide support and education for siblings and other family members.
  13. Assist in planning and implementing special events and activities for patients.
  14. Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards in all interactions with patients and families.
  15. Continuously seek opportunities for professional development and growth.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Child Life, Child Development, Or Related Field From An Accredited University.

  • Minimum Of 2 Years Experience Working With Children In A Healthcare Setting, Preferably In An Inpatient Unit.

  • Certification As A Child Life Specialist (Ccls) Through The Association Of Child Life Professionals (Aclp).

  • Strong Understanding Of Child Development, Grief And Loss, And The Impact Of Hospitalization On Children And Families.

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Collaborate With Interdisciplinary Teams And Provide Support To Children And Families Facing Medical Challenges.
