Job Description

Welcome to Orlando Health's Emergency Department, where we are dedicated to providing exceptional care and support to our youngest patients. We are currently seeking a compassionate and driven Child Life Specialist to join our Child Life & Allied Therapy team. In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on children and families during some of their most challenging moments.   1. Develop and implement child life programs and interventions to support the emotional, social, and developmental needs of pediatric patients in the emergency department.
  2. Provide direct patient care to children and families, including therapeutic play, education, and preparation for medical procedures.
  3. Collaborate with medical staff and interdisciplinary team members to ensure the best possible care for pediatric patients.
  4. Build and maintain relationships with patients and families to establish a trusting and supportive environment.
  5. Serve as a resource and advocate for pediatric patients and their families, addressing their concerns and needs.
  6. Conduct assessments of patients’ developmental and psychosocial needs and create individualized plans to address them.
  7. Utilize appropriate therapeutic techniques to support patients in coping with the stress and uncertainty of the emergency department.
  8. Educate and train staff and volunteers on the role and importance of child life services in the emergency department.
  9. Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of patient interactions and progress.
  10. Stay abreast of current research, best practices, and trends in child life and implement them in the emergency department.
  11. Collaborate with community organizations and resources to provide additional support and services for pediatric patients and families.
  12. Uphold Orlando Health’s mission, vision, and values while providing compassionate care to pediatric patients.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Child Life, Child Development, Psychology, Or A Related Field.

  • Certified Child Life Specialist (Ccls) Credential From The Association Of Child Life Professionals (Aclp).

  • Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience Working As A Child Life Specialist In A Pediatric Emergency Department.

  • Knowledge Of Child Development And Experience In Providing Developmentally Appropriate Interventions And Support To Children And Families In Crisis.

  • Strong Communication And Collaboration Skills To Work Effectively With Interdisciplinary Teams And Provide Education And Support To Healthcare Staff On Child Life Interventions And Strategies.
