  1. Develop and implement policies and procedures related to ethical decision-making and practices within the organization.
  2. Oversee and lead the Clinical Ethics Committee, including scheduling meetings, facilitating discussions, and ensuring adherence to ethical standards.
  3. Provide guidance and support to healthcare professionals regarding ethical issues and dilemmas that may arise in patient care.
  4. Educate and train staff on ethical principles and their application in the healthcare setting.
  5. Collaborate with other departments and leaders to ensure ethical considerations are integrated into all aspects of patient care.
  6. Stay updated on current ethical issues and trends in healthcare, and make recommendations for any necessary changes or updates to organizational policies.
  7. Serve as a resource for patients, families, and staff who have concerns or questions about ethical matters.
  8. Develop and maintain relationships with external organizations and experts in the field of ethics.
  9. Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements related to ethical practices in healthcare.
  10. Lead by example and foster a culture of ethical awareness and integrity throughout the organization.

Job Qualifications
  • Advanced Degree In Bioethics Or Related Field: A Director, Clinical Ethics At Novant Health Should Possess A Graduate-Level Degree In Bioethics Or A Related Field Such As Health Policy, Healthcare Administration, Or Law. This Education Provides The Necessary Foundation For Understanding Ethical Issues In Healthcare And Developing Ethical Policies And Procedures.

  • Extensive Experience In Healthcare Ethics: The Ideal Candidate For This Role Will Have Significant Experience Working In The Field Of Healthcare Ethics. This Could Include Working As An Ethics Consultant, Serving On An Ethics Committee, Or Conducting Research In The Area Of Bioethics. This Experience Will Enable The Director, Clinical Ethics To Effectively Navigate Complex Ethical Issues And Provide Guidance To Healthcare Providers And Patients.

  • Knowledge Of Relevant Laws And Regulations: A Director, Clinical Ethics At Novant Health Must Have A Thorough Understanding Of Federal And State Laws And Regulations Related To Healthcare Ethics. This Includes Laws Such As The Health Insurance Portability And Accountability Act (Hipaa) And The Patient Self-Determination Act (Psda). This Knowledge Will Ensure That Ethical Decisions Are Made In Compliance With Legal Requirements.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: As A Leader In The Field Of Clinical Ethics, The Director Must Possess Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills. This Includes The Ability To Effectively Communicate Complex Ethical Concepts To A Diverse Audience And To Facilitate Discussions And Decision-Making Processes Involving Multiple Stakeholders.

  • Leadership And Management Experience: The Director, Clinical Ethics Will Be Responsible For Overseeing A Team Of Ethics Professionals And Managing The Day-To-Day Operations Of The Clinical Ethics Program At Novant Health. Therefore, Candidates For This Role Should Have Prior Experience In Leadership And Management, Including The Ability To Set Goals, Manage Budgets, And Develop Policies And Procedures.
