Job Description

Novant Health is seeking a compassionate and dedicated individual to join our team as a Chaplain for our Northeast (NE) region. As a Chaplain, you will provide spiritual and emotional support to our patients, families, and team members during difficult and challenging times.   1. Provide spiritual and emotional support to patients, families, and team members during times of difficulty and challenge.
  2. Conduct spiritual assessments and offer appropriate support and resources to meet the spiritual needs of patients and families.
  3. Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to ensure holistic care for patients.
  4. Foster a culture of compassion and empathy within the organization.
  5. Serve as a liaison between patients and their faith communities, if desired by the patient.
  6. Offer grief counseling and bereavement support to patients and families.
  7. Conduct regular rounds in patient care areas to assess spiritual needs and offer support.
  8. Document all interactions and interventions in a timely and accurate manner.
  9. Provide education and training to healthcare team members on spiritual care and support.
  10. Maintain confidentiality and respect for diverse spiritual beliefs.
  11. Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient care and offer spiritual input.
  12. Collaborate with community faith leaders to provide spiritual resources for patients and families.
  13. Maintain a strong understanding of ethical and legal considerations related to spiritual care.
  14. Attend continuing education courses and conferences to stay updated on best practices in spiritual care.
  15. Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures related to spiritual care.

Job Qualifications
  • Degree In Theology Or Related Field: A Chaplain At Novant Health Is Required To Have A Degree In Theology, Divinity, Or A Related Field From An Accredited Institution. This Educational Background Provides The Necessary Knowledge And Understanding Of Various Religious Practices And Allows The Chaplain To Effectively Support Patients Of Different Faiths.

  • Ordination Or Endorsement: Along With A Degree, Novant Health Also Requires Its Chaplains To Have A Valid Ordination Or Endorsement From A Recognized Religious Organization. This Ensures That The Chaplain Is Authorized To Provide Spiritual Care And Guidance To Patients And Their Families.

  • Clinical Pastoral Education (Cpe): Cpe Is A Vital Part Of The Chaplain's Training At Novant Health. It Provides Hands-On Experience In A Healthcare Setting And Equips The Chaplain With The Necessary Skills To Support Patients And Their Families During Challenging Times.

  • Interfaith Knowledge And Cultural Sensitivity: Novant Health Serves A Diverse Community, And Its Chaplains Must Be Knowledgeable And Respectful Of Different Faiths And Cultures. A Chaplain Must Be Able To Provide Spiritual Care To Patients From Various Backgrounds And Be Sensitive To Their Beliefs And Values.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: As A Member Of The Healthcare Team, A Chaplain At Novant Health Must Possess Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills. They Must Be Able To Build Trust And Rapport With Patients And Their Families, Work Collaboratively With Other Staff Members, And Provide Empathetic Support In Difficult Situations.
