  1. Perform thorough decontamination, cleaning, and sterilization of medical equipment and instruments according to established protocols and industry standards.
  2. Inspect and assemble medical equipment and instruments to ensure proper functioning and cleanliness.
  3. Maintain accurate records and documentation of all equipment and instrument processing.
  4. Monitor and maintain inventory levels of sterile supplies and alert appropriate personnel when supplies need to be ordered.
  5. Adhere to infection control policies and procedures to ensure a safe and sterile environment for patients and staff.
  6. Collaborate with healthcare professionals to identify and resolve any issues or concerns related to equipment sterilization.
  7. Follow proper safety protocols to minimize the risk of injury or infection during equipment handling and processing.
  8. Stay updated on industry advancements, best practices, and regulations related to sterile processing to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
  9. Assist in the training and education of new sterile processing technicians and other healthcare staff on proper equipment handling and processing procedures.
  10. Participate in quality improvement initiatives to identify and implement process improvements for more efficient and effective equipment sterilization.

Job Qualifications
  • High School Diploma Or Equivalent: A Sterile Processing Technician At Northwell Health Must Have At Least A High School Diploma Or Equivalent Education.

  • Sterile Processing Certification: A Candidate Must Possess A Sterile Processing Certification From An Accredited Organization Such As The Certification Board For Sterile Processing And Distribution (Cbspd) Or The International Association Of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (Iahcsmm).

  • Previous Experience In A Healthcare Setting: Prior Experience In A Sterile Processing Or Related Field Is Preferred. This Could Include Working In A Hospital, Ambulatory Surgery Center, Or Other Healthcare Facility.

  • Knowledge Of Sterilization Techniques And Equipment: Candidates Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Sterilization Techniques And Be Familiar With Different Types Of Sterilization Equipment, Such As Autoclaves And Ethylene Oxide Gas Sterilizers.

  • Attention To Detail And Organizational Skills: Sterile Processing Technicians Must Have Excellent Attention To Detail And Be Able To Follow Strict Protocols To Ensure The Safety And Cleanliness Of Medical Equipment. Organizational Skills Are Also Important For Keeping Track Of Inventory And Maintaining A Sterile Processing Environment.
