  1. Perform sterilization procedures: The Sterile Processing Technician will be responsible for following proper sterilization techniques to ensure that all medical equipment and instruments are free of contaminants and safe for use in patient procedures.
  2. Maintain sterile environment: It will be the responsibility of the Sterile Processing Technician to ensure that all work areas and equipment are kept clean and sterile at all times, in accordance with established protocols and regulations.
  3. Inspect and prepare equipment: The technician will be responsible for inspecting medical equipment and instruments for any damage or defects, and properly preparing them for sterilization.
  4. Operate sterilization equipment: The Sterile Processing Technician will operate various sterilization equipment, such as autoclaves, to properly clean and sterilize medical equipment and instruments.
  5. Maintain inventory: Keeping track of inventory and supplies, and ordering new equipment and supplies as needed, will be an important responsibility of the technician.
  6. Adhere to safety protocols: It will be the responsibility of the Sterile Processing Technician to follow all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure the safety of themselves and others while handling and sterilizing medical equipment.
  7. Collaborate with healthcare team: The technician will work closely with other members of the healthcare team, such as nurses and surgeons, to ensure that all equipment and instruments are available and properly sterilized for patient procedures.
  8. Troubleshoot issues: In the event of any issues or malfunctions with sterilization equipment, the technician will be responsible for troubleshooting and addressing the problem in a timely manner.
  9. Maintain records: The Sterile Processing Technician will maintain accurate records of all sterilization procedures, equipment maintenance, and inventory to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  10. Attend trainings and meetings: The technician will be responsible for attending required trainings and team meetings to stay updated on best practices and new techniques in sterile processing.

Job Qualifications
  • Certification In Sterile Processing: Candidates For This Position Should Hold A Certification In Sterile Processing From An Accredited Program Or Organization, Such As The Certification Board For Sterile Processing And Distribution (Cbspd) Or The International Association Of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (Iahcsmm).

  • Knowledge Of Sterilization Techniques: The Ideal Candidate Should Possess A Thorough Understanding Of Various Sterilization Techniques, Including Steam, Ethylene Oxide, And Low-Temperature Sterilization. They Should Also Be Familiar With Proper Packaging And Storage Methods For Sterile Instruments And Equipment.

  • Attention To Detail: Sterile Processing Technicians Must Have Excellent Attention To Detail To Ensure That All Instruments And Equipment Are Properly Cleaned, Decontaminated, And Sterilized. This Requires Following Strict Protocols And Procedures And Accurately Documenting All Steps In The Sterilization Process.

  • Understanding Of Infection Control: Infection Control Is A Critical Aspect Of Sterile Processing, And Candidates Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Infection Control Principles And Practices. This Includes Knowledge Of Proper Hand Hygiene, Personal Protective Equipment, And Handling Of Contaminated Materials.

  • Ability To Work In A Fast-Paced Environment: The Sterile Processing Department At Northwell Health Is A Fast-Paced And High-Pressure Environment. Candidates For This Position Should Be Able To Work Efficiently And Accurately Under Pressure, Prioritize Tasks, And Meet Tight Deadlines. They Should Also Be Able To Work Collaboratively With A Team And Communicate Effectively With Other Healthcare Professionals.
