- Provide compassionate and high-quality care to patients in the PACU, ensuring their safety and comfort during the post-operative period.
- Collaborate with the surgical team to develop and implement individualized patient care plans.
- Monitor patients' vital signs, assess their pain levels, and administer medications as needed.
- Evaluate patients' post-operative status and report any changes or concerns to the appropriate medical personnel.
- Utilize critical thinking and problem-solving skills to anticipate and respond to potential complications.
- Communicate effectively with patients and their families, providing education and emotional support throughout the recovery process.
- Adhere to infection control and safety protocols to maintain a clean and safe environment for patients and staff.
- Document all patient care accurately and thoroughly in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient care and outcomes.
- Act as a resource and mentor for other staff members, promoting a collaborative and supportive work environment.
- Stay current with advancements in nursing practice, attending trainings and continuing education opportunities as required.
- Adhere to all regulatory and accreditation standards and guidelines.
- Maintain professional standards of conduct and confidentiality in all interactions with patients, families, and colleagues.
Current Rn License: Candidates For This Position Must Hold A Valid Rn License In The State Of New York. Northwell Health Requires All Nurses To Maintain A Current License And Adhere To The State's Continuing Education Requirements.
Bls And Acls Certifications: The Post Anesthesia Care Unit (Pacu) Is A Fast-Paced And High-Stress Environment, And It Is Essential For Nurses To Have Current Basic Life Support (Bls) And Advanced Cardiac Life Support (Acls) Certifications.
Minimum Of 2 Years Of Pacu Experience: Northwell Health Seeks Candidates With A Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience Working In A Pacu Setting. This Experience Should Include Caring For Patients Recovering From Various Types Of Surgeries And Procedures.
Strong Critical Thinking And Communication Skills: As A Pacu Nurse, You Will Be Responsible For Monitoring And Assessing Patients' Vital Signs, Administering Medications, And Communicating With Patients, Their Families, And The Surgical Team. Therefore, Strong Critical Thinking And Communication Skills Are Essential For This Role.
Ability To Work Flexible Hours: The Pacu Operates 24/7, And Nurses May Be Required To Work Day, Evening, Or Night Shifts, As Well As Weekends And Holidays. Candidates Should Be Able And Willing To Work A Flexible Schedule To Meet The Needs Of The Unit.
